Pretty sure “purchase” means giving them cash. However, the Champion Fly Free offer may work with points.
09-07-2021 at 12:53 PM
Once you have the Companion Pass, award tickets allow you to bring your Companion.

2nd from the last line of requirements: "Charter flights, group travel, Southwest Vacations packages, and reservations made using Rapid Rewards points do not qualify for this promotion"

No

Assuming you mean the qualifying purchase. No, because it has to be your rapid rewards number in the booked flight
09-08-2021 at 10:23 AM
You can open a Rapid Rewards account in her name. I booked my ticket with my RR number and my wife's ticket with her RR number. Each of us will have a companion pass so four people will be able to travel together for the price of two

Likewise, if you book now but change the flight, you should be fine. The minor change within the acceptable window of time won't affect your eligibility. Your record locator shows time of original booking.

I just called Southwest to see if I could change the date of departure (before Nov 18). She told me any changes invalidate the offer.

Man! I just booked three flights for October on Saturday. Anyone know if I'd have to cancel and re-book them in order to take advantage of this? If I have to cancel and re-book, does Southwest charge fees for that?

No it's not. In either case. to earn the pass. but yes, you can use points for the flights in JanFeb
Can you use either Points or Travel Funds to purchase the initial tickets (the Book by 9/9, Fly by 11/18/2021 tickets) to qualify for the Companion Pass?

That's how I read it. How does the companion accompany you on the trip when the dates of travel are different for the primary traveler and the companion?

This ends up being a buy 3 tickets, get the 4th free if a companion truly accompanies you. A 25% discount essentially.
Yes, if you only fly once with the companion, on the same cost flight.

Or fly on many much more expensive flights....

Register, check cost on your existing flight to confirm it hasn't charged, then cancel and rebook with travel funds.

I already had flights booked for later this month. If I "change" my flight to the same one and pay $0 for the change fee will that work?

Otherwise, if I cancel and rebook, the new price of the flight is higher than what I originally paid.
No, you have to actually book the flight. So changing existing flights won't count. You have to generate a new record locator.

Can I book travel within the next two days, but later change the dates? I would still fly before Nov 18, but not sure?

You can get a full refund within 24 hours of booking on any airline. If it's pass 24 hours I think southwest refunds you full "store credit" to re-use within a year.

I misread this, I thought it was for a flight in January-February. But its a companion pass so its unlimited. Very good deal if you have a reason to fly.

Confused

So you buy a ticket and travel by 11/18/21. Then buy ANOTHER ticket for 1/6-2/28/2022 and on THAT flight your companion flies free?
Yup, thats what i understood per their terms. You fly now and then free ticket applies next time when you travel in Jan/Feb 2022...so basically they are making you buy ticket twice...its revenue generating scheme, not really what it sounds...not good for someone taking vacation but good for seasonal travelers.
