Worth a shot to log in to your Discover card account and "chat" a rep. Four months ago, I came off a 12 month 0% APR on purchases and just got it again by asking. Of course TWO months ago I asked if there were any special APR rates and was told "no." Last chat was this:
Me: "Good morning, I was wondering if there were any special offers available on my card"
Rep: "Was there anything in particular you were looking for?"
Me: "Special APR for purchases or anything interesting?"
Rep: "I show you are eligible for 0% APR for the next 12 months, would you like me to apply that to your account?"
Me: Sure, thanks!

Yup, they do it all the time. The problem is they charge transaction fee on 0% BT, somewhere between 2% and 4%.

That's OK with me, thanks!

Will it affect my credit score since im technically not paying off the balance every month?
credit card utilization rate might go higher.

I do have to say there's no downside to accepting this for someone that's responsible with credit.

The only tip I can give is to budget properly. It can be surprising how much of a balance it's possible to build up over a year, although I do make sure to pay it off with savings and/or transfer a small portion to get a balance transfer sign-up bonus on another card.

I've been doing a better job budgeting by not having an interest-free promotion active on a card as I usually would, but again it can be a great promotion that saves/makes a few hundred dollars relative to the average market return.

Yes it will. My credit score is very high and when I used this offer a few years ago the score dropped by quite a bit. Not enough to affect anything since I started out so high but it was a pretty big drop.
I call bullshit on this. Unless you are carrying high balances on other card or have in general shitty credit. I maxed my Discover card out last time at $25K and the credit "hit" was maybe a few points...

Not bullshit. Do you see how long I've been here and my SD rep count? Had a 20-30 point drop in credit score when I maxed out my Discover card with 0% offer. I have decades long good credit and in the past decade have had score over 800 and as high as 850. YMMV

I don't think you are lying, I am just saying there are apparently other factors at work if your score dropped "quite a bit"...

It's all about the overall credit utilization. If an individual has total credit of $200K and max out the Discover with $5K credit limit, the impact is really trifling. If the individual has measly total credit, maxing out one card will have a serious impact to the credit score. In general, maxing out a credit card will never have a good impact to credit score.

And what would those be? I had no other high balances and no missed payments. Applied for a few cards and that's it. Seems clear to me that carrying a high balance of many thousands on the 0% Discover, and eventually maxing it out while just making the minimum payment caused a good hit to the score. Once I paid it off at the end of the year the score jumped 20-30 points back where it was. So yes, the devil is in the details. Just using the offer is not going to do that but maxing out the offer to it's full potential can cause a good hit.

No matter what promotional deal you got on a new credit card, the rules remain the same as far as your credit scores. The amount of money you owe still accounts for 30% of your FICO score. If your credit utilization ratio — the percentage of your credit limit that you're using — is too high, your scores may suffer. In general, it's best to use less than 30% of your credit limit on any card.

If you got the 0% card to finance a big purchase, a hefty utilization ratio might be unavoidable in the short term, but use it as motivation to pay the debt down quickly. Making a lot of purchases in a short period of time? Consider making multiple payments each month to keep your utilization ratio low and avoid maxing out your card.

Check your email for an email titled:

"Did you forget to activate your promo APR?"

It said click to activate, no login required. Don't even need to chat, but I COULD NOT find a link when I logged in to my Discover account.
