Amazon just announced a new set of 4k TVs, including a "4-series" and an upgraded "Omni series".

I just stumbled upon the fact that the 50" version of these TVs has a 22%-23% temporary introductory price discount, making the Omni series $399 (normally $509.99), and the 4-series $359.99 (normally $469.99).

Note below the price on the main screen, it says the following:

Introductory price of $399.99 (22% off) will be reflected at checkout. After introductory period, price will be $509.99.

I'm not sure at the moment how long this introductory price will last. The deal does not appear to apply to any of the other sizes. The TV is set to ship on 10/27/21.

Call me old fashioned but I still prefer just using my TV as a glorified computer monitor and doing all of my streaming via a web browser. Ad blocking, being able to just browse web pages that link to content (mst3k-club.com anyone?), using a good mouse and keyboard (without any odd limitations), and then being able to run games or other software. I wouldn't give those up for flashy looking interfaces, simplified remotes and a being able to brag about how few wires my home theater setup uses.

For me the HTPC still has not been replaced by "Smart" devices that are designed to turn me and my family into the product. Though I do understand that not everyone is in a situation that allows for setups like these. That's okay too. Smilie

For me, I have everything on my pc and stream it through my iPad to Apple TV. Was using Plex but had enough issues here and there that I have not set it up on my new pc. Plex does not work well with tv shows so was running them through an old Sony set top box with a hard drive plugged in. Plex also would try and fail to catalog my music over and over.

I did place an order for this though. Mom watches Prime through our "Smart" tv which to me is clunky and agonizingly slow. She can not get a handle on using anything else though. I told her about this tv and she seems exited to try it out(already uses Alexa). So in for one for mom.

Lol, so you've bought a phillips hue setup, a Nvidia Shield, and a 50" tv for a total that is less than $400?

The lowest the nvidia shield has been is about $130. Add onto that a phillips hue system that usually around $80 or so to get the bridge + 1 bulb.

That leaves $190 to get a comparable 50" television like TCL brand. Ouch.

Yeaaaaaa, not seeing it. Again, if you wanted to buy them all separate, than this deal clearly isnt for you, and you also spent more in piece-mealing it out than someone who wanted to get into these products in one go.

Hmmm... will wait for other Black Friday TV deals, and more importantly, the RTings review for this one. How do people like the Fire TV OS? I've really only used Roku and it's so slick.

You can sideload Smart YouTube and other toys on FireOS. Can't do that with Roku.

so I saw the 65" has dolby digital plus and dolby passthrough, but does it mean it does not pass through dolby atmos? Mainly want to pair something reasonably priced 65" with atmos compatibility (sonos arc)

So just wifi 6 and cpu upgrade. Not sure if that brings MAX performance!!

The WiFi 6 won't matter to me even though I've got WiFi 6 routers because I always hardwire these with the cablematters kit. 330 Mbps down makes the menus and Plex load faster, everything just snappier in general.

He's not kidding. Those Roku TVs send back everything you watch back to the mothership. The logging URL that pi-hole blocks is scribe.logs.roku.com. How do you think the TV knows to ask you if you want to watch the movie from the beginning. Unplug that crap from the Internet and install pi-hole or AdGuard Home.

My insignia fire tvs (black friday) really piss me off. They never work right to alexa commands that are linked to my echos nearby.

"Alexa turn on my bedroom TV"
"Bedroom TV doesn't support that."

Etc. etc. Then I yell at alexa. Also sometimes it will work sometimes it doesnt.

Man what has happened to TV prices... I was hoping to get a cheap 50" TV for a pool table / bar room but prices are insane even for the cheapo brands.

??? 50 inch "cheapos" can be found regularly sub 350 with UHD even cheaper if you settle for lower res
