One issue I see is while it does have 16GB of ram, it's only a single stick. Dual channel ram at high clock speeds is crucial for Ryzen processors and HP likes to make ram upgrades a pain in the ass (getting sticks to run at their rated speeds that is)

You can get a better PC for this price tag.

Among the problems with this PC:
  • No graphics card. Don't plan on running any modern games with this integrated system. Certainly no mining.
  • Insufficient size hard drive: After installing the new Windows 11 OS, a 256GB drive will have very little storage capacity left over.
  • Uses outdated Bluetooth technology from 2013, as if they're trying to unload pre-5.0 hardware that hasn't sold.
  • Custom HP case doesn't allow for easy upgrades. In addition to being a cramped case with a bad single fan, it's made even more cramped by having an antiquated optical drive.
  • No info provided on power supply, although we know from other TP01 models that the power supply is proprietary, cheap, questionable quality, and not upgradeable.
  • Single channel RAM, although that's not nearly as big of a deal as the above stuff.
The poster notes that the main draw is the CPU, which is true, but CPU alone doesn't make this a good deal.

no video card for you
The motherboard is HP proprietary. It has a 4-pin power connector instead of a standard 24-pin ATX power connector. it will be hard to upgrade power supply if you want to install video card in a few months when they get cheaper

The points you make are definitely valid from a gamer perspective but that is not the audience for the PC. It is for small business and home users to which the points you make won't matter in the least.

I'm seeing a sale price of $699 on Office Depot's site. Did the sale price go up that quickly?

This is the same PC that was on sale for $550 in Office Depot back in spring. See the following two previous threads for extensive discussion about it:

https://slickdeals.net/f/15002647-hp-pavilion-tp01-2066-ryzen-7-5700g-16gb-ram-250gb-nvme-ssd-549-99-at-officedepot-com

The last thread is still active seeing some posting from time to time.

I own this PC, and it is excellent, as long as you are aware of its limitations. In particular:

1) The second video out is VGA, which arguably nobody wants in 2021. Unfortunately the USB-C port does NOT have DisplayPort Alt support. A graphics card can be installed in the PCIe x16 slot to provide extra HDMI or DP ports, just make sure it doesn't have a power hungry GPU.

2) The single M.2 NVMe slot is occupied by the built-in 256GB Kioxia, which is no speed monster, but isn't bad either. It can of course be replaced with a faster NVMe, but @WiseScene422 recently posted in the above thread how the M.2 slot is only half the speed of a NVMe-to-PCIe adapter installed in the PCIe x16 slot.

3) Only a single PCIe x16 slot. Don't expect to put a fast GPU in there as the PSU doesn't provide enough power for it.

4) The PSU is 180W proprietary HP. Larger PSUs can be bought from HP, but somewhat expensive. See the previous thread for details.

5) There are TWO RAM slots with the factory 16GB stick occupying one. Thus it runs in single-channel mode until complemented with a matching stick for a total 32GB dual-channel OR replaced with another dual channel pair. See the previous thread for RAM recommendations. HP claims 32GB max but several members have confirmed 64GB (2x32GB) working just fine. Make sure to buy RAM that runs JEDEC 3200 Mhz CL22 at 1.2v since the BIOS has no timing or overclocking or overvolting.

6) The case has room for two additional 2.5" or 3.5" drives (any combination) with 2x unused SATA ports. 2x SATA power cables are provided and a single unused SATA data cable. Just add another SATA data cable if you need it. One 2.5/3.5" drive can be mounted in the drive cage and another hanging inside the front of the case. Screw holes for 2.5" and 3.5" drives are clearly marked.

I particularly enjoy that this PC has a fairly fast 8c/16t CPU (with decent integrated GPU for light gaming) and yet it is very quiet and power efficient. It is an excellent PC for almost anything but heavy gaming or GPU mining.
