I've had CDMA verizon redpocket for almost 2 years, I'd say it's about the same as other verizon mnvo's, all of them seem to have occasional weird coverage issues that I don't think you'd get with verizon proper, but the cost savings are worth it. The only problems are:
1. visual voicemail stops working every few months, you have to call redpocket, they fix it in a 15 minute call, say this shouldn't happen again, and then it only works for another few months.
2. NO TETHERING on current phones! I had a moto x4 up until a few months ago and tethering worked fine. I just switched to a pixel 3a and found out that officially tethering IS NOT ALLOWED and it was just a bug with older phones that allowed it to.

Now I'm looking for a new provider when my year is up in a few months, I'll probably have to go with verizon prepaid.

att gsma redpocket does support tethering but you don't get visual voicemail for free. I took two phones on vacation to some national parks, att redpocket and verizon redpocket. the att usually reported the same signal or one bar higher, however in terms of actual data usability it was about the same, I saw somewhere that maybe att's thresholds for the bar levels are a little lower. But when it really mattered I was able to get just enough intermittent signal from verizon to get an email out whereas att was useless.

Also, att tethering apparently blocks all ports other than standard web traffic, so I had problems with some of my work apps that were fine with verizon.
Only for the few lucky ones who're eligible for this bucks promotion.
For those on or wanting the 20GB plan - which is regularly $336/year via their eBay store - was priced at $300 in late October 2020. I bought that on October 14th to be specific - more than a month before Black Friday.

Also, Red Pocket eBay plans can be applied up to 90 days after purchase... or at least that was the arrangement last year. My October 14 purchase was held and was applied on December 9th.... which from my perspective means I'm already within 90 days of my own renewal so my eyes are open for the next deal on the 20GB plan.

Last - tethering. I can't help anybody tied to or preferring the Verizon network. All I know is it's worked consistently on AT&T for years on every one of my phones.

For those wanting to compare plans, Mint Mobile is offering 10GBs a month for $240 prepaid for the entire year.

RP has been under $240 for 8gb renewal for 4 years for me. Mint doesn't offer those rates for renewals, from my experience, nor does it offer all three carriers as options. Most MVNOs tend to be bait and switch with good intro offers or phone deals, but you pay for it in the end or have to keep jumping services and porting out. RP has been the only reliable, consistent service I've had on ATT networks for under $20/mo for a generous 8gb. The only thing I hate is getting charged eBay sales tax for a renewal code.

Yes, that is correct. They are pretty slow at mailing the Sim card so I ended up buying a Sim card at target to activate with the code they email out to speed things up.

I'm on AT&T prepaid. Unlike most other wireless carriers, AT&T doesn't throttle/deprioritize their prepaid customers (except on their unlimited plans). You can pre-pay $300 and get 8gb/mo for 12 months, which is the same deal as this, just a little more expensive, and without having to worry about being deprioritized. Looks like you won't have any trouble with coverage in your zip code.

Does AT&T let you tether? Assuming they don't let you roam? Any other advantages? Is it always $300 or do they have any further discounts?

Just an FYI if you browse through Reddit, RedPockets support is absolutely terrible. I've had them a total of 5 years with a total of 4 phones. I can confirm it's like pulling teeth to get the Phillipians to do anything more than read from a script. Not only that but they will suspend you for "overuse" on their network. My cousin whom I recommended to RP 2 years ago has been turned off with them numerous times and is on the "Unlimited" plan. The crime I guess is over 5,000 minutes a month. So much for unlimited, I guess? Finally, service is not pro-rated, after he went to cancel 6 months into his second year, they wouldn't give him anything back even though they are breaking their own rules. Go somewhere else.

Anyone tried 5G on redpocket? Also, any large data package on sale? 8gb is a bit short.

I have been with RP on AT&T GSMA for several years now (with another backup phone on their $30/year plan, previously on their Sprint CDMAS network, now with TMo GSMT). Here are my thoughts:

1) I almost never had issues with either of my GSMA or GSMT phones. Tethering works fine (I have Moto G6) and it saved my day a few times when I had to urgently log in from my laptop. Most of the times EVEN if I had minor issues, they were resolved very quickly through the online chat.

I say "almost" never due to some crazy issue that happened around a month ago - back in August one day my phone just stopped working completely - no internet, no calls or texts at all. When I tried calling from it, I would hear an automated voice from AT&T saying that my plan has expired or something along these lines.
Coincidentally this was the day I had to drive ~700 miles ideally with my phone handy. Luckily my son had his Tello T-Mobile phone handy, so I was able to call RP customer support and after almost an hour on the line they told me it was some kind of a glitch on their side, flipped something and I got my service back instantly.
So, obviously kudos to their tech support for figuring this out rather quickly, yet NO kudos for letting this happen in the first place - from my understanding, the moment I called them, they EXACTLY knew what I was calling about, so the issue must've been quite common.

2) While above is true for GSMA and GSMT, I would never ever suggest anyone being on CDMAS Sprint network. I literally had nothing, but trouble while having CDMAS for my backup phone, and most of the time support was unable to resolve those. If they haven't switched to GSMT for their cheapest $30/year plan, I would've not extended it with RP for another year.
Obviously, YMMV, but I never had much success with Sprint networks in general, they seem to have way more illogical things to me than any GSM network.

3) Competition - I think the biggest shift these days is Tello going on TMo network. TMo became really good lately in terms of reception (at least in more urban areas that I frequent) and some of the plans Tello has been offering through StackSocial have been really good. A year ago all my family was using RP, now it's only me on this 8Gb plan with everyone else on 2Gb plan with Tello. And... this is my biggest dilemma so far. Since switching to work-from-home I rarely use more than 2-3 Gb data a month even listening to online radio in the car etc. My RP plan is up for renewal in November, but it will sure be a tough call if Tello offers something in 3-5Gb range.

They explicitly say tethering is included...

Can anyone else weigh in on tethering experience?

I'm currently using this as my cell provider. Verizon red pocket does not allow tethering, only AT&T.

I second the 'overuse' issue. Got suspended several times.

I've been with them on Verizon side for just over a year now. While I have had some data outages that were only solved by contacting support, they always answered and fixed my issues. I'd call them competent based on my live chat experience, I've only called them once and that was also fine. I've not tried to push the data cap or used unlimited.

I had to contact them once for no service, and had a lot of frustration and anger, only to find out it was an ATT outage, from some bozo digging through underground lines. While there are tempting deals through Visible and TMO and its MVNOs, the most reliable service in my area inside and outside the city is ATT, and I need solid coverage everywhere as a Lyft driver. Since like most people I'm at home on wifi most of the time, 8GB is a sweet spot for me for not having to worry about burning through data in a month.

I always use chat. It's usually about having to activate tethering on their end when I get a new plan or phone.
