I see where both of you are coming from, it kind of does kill the 'portability' factor of a ultrabook if you gotta carry a brick like this around to use peripherals (obviously there are smaller hi ubs out there). And obviously adds cost.
But on the other hand this can handle a lot more than ports on the side of a laptop could ever handle (USB C PD, multiple monitors, etc).
