Hmm. A cheap grill brush with tiny metal wires that can come out, stick to the grates and end up on food? If you insist on these types of brushes at the very least make sure you get a quality brush. You don't want those wires in your mouth. Just my two cents I've read that these brushes can be dangerous

The plastic base that the (rather sparse) metal fibers protrude from on Expert Grill brushes melts readily. Be vigilant in keeping it flat, watch out when using the rounded scrapers...very easy to melt plastic onto your grill with these.

Having a child find a brush wire stuck in the bbq sauce on their chicken midmeal made this risk much more real. It was a new brush and there were more wires on the grill. Not fun waiting to see if anyone got stomach pains the next few days.

That said, Walmarts in my area (East Tennessee) are clearancing a lot of outdoor stuff with steep discounts on grills, griddles, different types of brushes including the wooden ones which i have converted to, gloves, covers, sauces, etc. Varies by store.

Holy paranoid. Food cooked in open flames are also carcinogenic. If you don't get cancer the metal bristles will cut your life short.
When there are several equal options, why use the one that can cause severe pain, a big medical bill, and even death. It doesn't clean better and can be bad for your grill depending in the type.

I have a Char Broil (?) brand where the bristles are plastic and colored a bright red to help the bristles be more visible in case they fall off into your food.

Can the people dissing on this product actually provide some alternatives? That would actually be helpful.

Nice try trying to scare people. Not just open flames, though. It's any high temperature cooking.

https://www.cancer.gov/about-canc...fact-sheet

Quote :
Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are chemicals formed ...when fat and juices from meat grilled directly over a heated surface or open fire drip onto the surface or fire, causing flames and smoke. The smoke contains PAHs that then adhere to the surface of the meat. PAHs can also be formed during other food preparation processes, such as smoking of meats.

The formation of HCAs and PAHs varies by meat type, cooking method, and "doneness" level (rare, medium, or well done). Whatever the type of meat, however, meats cooked at high temperatures, especially above 300 ºF (as in grilling or pan frying), or that are cooked for a long time tend to form more HCAs.
...
Are there ways to reduce HCA and PAH formation in cooked meats?

Even though no specific guidelines for HCA/PAH consumption exist, concerned individuals can reduce their exposure by using several cooking methods:
  • Avoiding direct exposure of meat to an open flame or a hot metal surface and avoiding prolonged cooking times (especially at high temperatures) can help reduce HCA and PAH formation (29).
  • Using a microwave oven to cook meat prior to exposure to high temperatures can also substantially reduce HCA formation by reducing the time that meat must be in contact with high heat to finish cooking (29).
  • Continuously turning meat over on a high heat source can substantially reduce HCA formation compared with just leaving the meat on the heat source without flipping it often (29).
  • Removing charred portions of meat and refraining from using gravy made from meat drippings can also reduce HCA and PAH exposure (29).

In for one to try out the rings of the Expert Grill version to see if it'll do the scraping job minus the risks. Interestingly Walmart app allows me do local pickup and not on browser. Thanks OP!
