I personally don't like to go to the dealers unless it's covered under warranty or it's something that requires specialized equipment.

I've had nothing but good experience with my Mazda dealer. It really depends on who your service manager is. Ours has a younger guy and he is super cool and very knowledgeable, a Mazda fan like myself. I'm constantly bringing my 2013 hatch in with "fix this, check that" and I always get it back with "everything looks good, cleaned the MAF", never any repairs unless they're needed (none yet so far at140k). And always gives a discount and helps me buy my own parts for maintenance for half the price to avoid their crazy upcharges. If you find a good service manager, hold on to that guy for dear life. They're a rarity.
Same, great experience overall. I don't go to the dealership for oil changes cause I don't know how to do it.....I go cause they throw it up on a lift and check the brakes, do a battery test, etc. Then with that info in hand, you can decide to do the service there or not. They have to offer the overpriced cabin air filter replacement and are cool about it if you decline.

If this was one of those drive in oil change places maybe. Dealer, little to no chance.
Why? I like the dealer more because they actually know that they're doing. They have nice waiting rooms with coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and snacks. They're also very honest and give expert opinion for free if they see something wrong with your car. In my experience, dealers are a much more pleasant experience. Though i've only ever visited Toyota, BMW, and Ford dealers so maybe those companies are just nice.

Educators are the only profession that makes all other professions possible. Without them, you wouldn't be able to do any of what you mentioned. And they do not get paid more than Engineers on average. Since you mentioned university professors, they make less than engineers in their respective fields (Finance professors deciding to teach versus work in Finance industry, etc). I for one feel great gratitude for educators, especially K-12 educators, they are one of the most underappreciated professions in our modern society and help shape and build the future more than we think. I wish we would pay them more so the best and brightest would choose and compete to be in classrooms.

Disclaimer: Both my parents were educators most of their professional life (K-12 and university professors) and both made more money outside of education when they left the field.

Last disclaimer: I'm an engineer.
You literally would not be here were it not for a doctor and/or nurse what are you even going on about

So nice and well deserved. Educators are getting a bad rap no matter what they do.
Four died last week from CVD in our county last week. That should never happen.
Thanks Mazda

A good mechanic wouldn't let a car go for 10 years without checking and changing filters, spark plugs, transmission fluid, shocks, bushings, etc.

Coolant, brake fluid, tranny fluid, gear oil, etc do not last forever.
Most of those are 100k service items. Brake fluid, sure but I didn't do it. I probably replaced the pads though, but not the shoes.

The jeep dealer I took my car to does one of these 'multipoint inspections' which as it turns out, is just them checking the mileage of my car and the system telling them what should be worn and need replacing. I enjoyed the red X and 'fail' on my chart for a dirty cabin air filter that needed changing, something I had done just a month prior. They also had a yellow X and 'caution' for my engine air filter as it was getting dirty and would be at the end of it's life soon. I had changed that with the cabin filter.

My favorite though was the CPO bumper to bumper inspection at BMW. After getting it home I discovered that the rear seat heaters didn't work. Apparently the thorough inspection didn't include pressing buttons to see if the light came on. While playing with the button something caught my eye. Oh look, the entire underside of the rear seat was covered in food and wrappers. I mean completely covered on every inch of the underside. It was disgusting. Apparently that's not part of the check either nor is it part of the detailing process.
The dealership service repair shops and the chain auto repair shops are the ones that are rip offs and scammers. No matter where i go for small things, they always find something terribly wrong after making me wait for hours. I even remember them telling me I need all brakes repaired and replaced for $2000 when my car was brand new at just around 4000 miles years ago. This is why they always advertise " free multi point inspection" on $15 or $20 oil change coupon. If they can't fool you to replace engine or brakes, they find smaller things like wipers or certain filters that needs replaced even after just having them replaced a month ago. I stopped going to those chain and dealership locations and I go to the independent auto repair and mechanic shops on streets. They rarely ever lie about repairs or replacements. If they do find problems that need repairs or replacement, they tell you and show you and give you options and they don't care if you say no.

I'm going to rant here a little bit but it's a little disappointing how everybody wants to thank educators or healthcare workers but you never hear anybody thanking engineers. I appreciate the work educators and healthcare workers do but engineers design and build bridges, cars, electronics, fighter jets, ships, etc. They build the medical devices that help healthcare workers. They build the online tools and iPads and PCs that educators use. Why do we not see any sort of "thanks" given to engineers?

p.s. before somebody jumps in and says "engineers are paid more"...let's not forget that nurses and doctors are paid equal or more than engineers. Deans of colleges and professors (a.k.a educators) also make more than engineers.
It might be because after we worked a12 hr shift, (which really is 14 hrs. many times) back to back, being tripled masks, doubled gown, soaked in sweat, scared every shift, wondering if we caught covid while trying our damnest to save, most unvaccinated people. We then get to go home to our families, stripping down to underwear out in the yard, so we don't bring any contamination in to ther house, where my little ones sleep. And, when you signed up to be an engineer, you need what your job would entail. When I became a RN with a BSN, when all this mess just started, I thought I would be saving lives, not putting my own life, or my families, in danger.

This is likely a scam. Mazdas user manual says it needs synthetic oil. Make sure they give you synthetic.

I thought this was a nice offer- possibly one of the best perks I've gotten as a teacher. I was most excited about the interior detailing.
Ended up with a $1500 bill to replace my oil pan because my "previous oil change stripped the screw."
Effin BS avoid at all costs!!
