I miss the yearly Target/Amazon/Bestbuy latest iPad generation at $249.99 during Black Friday. They never did it last year. They did it every year going back as far as I can remember. All good things come to an end I suppose. Darn.

I'll take the $4.99 hit, just to get Costco warranty/returns (esp. with my Costco Visa).
For some reason, although the page said that AppleCare+ was available - I couldn't find a way to add it (even when it was in the cart - there was no additional option)

So the new IPAD (2021) has 3 gig's ram. Much like the Fire HD 10 (newest edition) (3gb ram) that I picked up for 69 dollars on sale recently (sd slick deal). I'm sure the new IPAD has a lot more to offer, but I mostly use my HD 10 for movies/tv shows/audible/kindle/email/internet/youtube/alexa show type stuff with bluetooth keyboard/mouse/speakers/earbuds connected. I could pick up 3 of the Fire hd 10's for 1 IPAD. In my hd 10 I have a 500 gig micro SD card in it with tons of movies/tv shows/ebooks/etc. There is no micro sd slot on IPAD. I am not putting down the IPAD because I'm sure other people use other features that the HD 10 doesn't have. I am glad that apple increased the storage to 64gig (I did try the last years version with 32 gig's but with out external micro SD slot, I was hurting for storage after loading regular apps. Enjoy the new IPAD and hope it does everything you want on the device. I just don't understand why apple doesn't put an micro-SD slot on their devices , the fire hd 10 will accept 1TB micro sd card.

I like that they upgraded the base storage to 64GB but I don't like that the storage upgrade is +$150 now. I have a 32GB now which is way too small and I don't think 64GB will be enough either for the long term. I may just settle for it though because I don't want to pay $450 for an iPad.

As you acknowledge, yours is a very specialized use case. The iPadOS environment offers a lot more than that, especially for folks already with iPhones or Macs - the smooth integration across devices and an automatic, bullet-proof and very complete backup process via iCloud are well worth the extra $. And then there is the solid and beautifully designed hardware and bulletproof reliability. There's a reason the iPad owns the tablet market.

The iPad makes a pretty solid video conferencing device, especially this new model with Center Stage and a 12MP Ultra wide front camera. The iPad Air has a 7MP non-wide front camera. As I recall, the camera on the Fire HD10 is mediocre.

As to no micro-sd slot - I've never missed it. Everything seems to be online now and we can tether to our phones. But even the old 32 GB iPad could hold several seasons of downloaded series or many movies. But I certainly understand there are folks who wish to load up all kinds of content on their mobile devices and prefer lots of storage.

Comparing RAM across platforms is meaningless.

(I'll admit, at its $149 or less price, I have been tempted to grab a Fire HD10 - as a dedicated Alexa "Show" device.)
