"AData Pro" sounds like an oxymoron.

This is one of the drives that ADATA pulled a bait and switch with a slower controller. They sent the version with a fast controller to the reviewers, then silently switched them with cheaper, downgraded controllers with reduced performance once glowing reviews were released. They then silently switched to an even slower controller for the second time a few months ago. Should be illegal.

Makes you rethink about the warranty on the good ones. Hope it stays working cuz ADATA gonna send you these trash ones.

What sort of performance hit are we expecting?

Massive performance drops in some cases. You shouldn't buy this.

I have not see anybody do a side by side of both controllers with the same test but the performance is basically tied to the slower clock controller. You can only infer from its relative testing with other sticks in the same review.

This review is after the switch and it stays just above the WD Blue SN550 and trails in some of the tests, so any price premium over the WD Blue is no longer justified. This is the main conclusion from this review.

https://www.servethehome.com/adat...sd-review/

Here is a comparison from different reviews in one article

https://www.tomshardware.com/news...ler-change

but the test conditions may vary between the two.

However, the slower interface on the new controller seems to have the most impact on sequential reads and writes where it is slower around 20%.

So small reads and writes as in a boot/OS disk or small document or image files for productivity apps shouldn't see much of a difference in practice. But people who buy larger capacities may be doing game or media applications and there the sequential operation hit will likely be noticeable.

But it is the way they have handled the whole business hiding behind the Max Read and Write numbers claiming the performance numbers are the same which makes them an outlier dishonest group amongst other companies that have done component changes if not as eggregiously.

If the deal is better than WD Blue and comparables, buy it. No longer comparable in performance with Sk Hynix, Sabrent, Silicon Power, etc.

PNY did something similar with their XLR8 CS3030. Sent the launch product to reviewers with great drive endurance ratings. After the positive reviews came in and the sales were good, they downgraded components and endurance ratings.

You can always just return it to bestbuy for a refund if it doesn't work up to expectations.

No. The issue here is a different controller. The original one (three years ago?) had the better controller.

Today, it is a crap-shoot if you get the better one or not.

Bah, I'll just wait until BF. This was just a luxury, 2nd drive type of deal for me. Got a 970 Evo Plus for a similar price after cash back and discounts last year.
