These phones when purchased through Best Buy will lock to the first SIM card inserted. Do not go back to Best Buy and ask them to unlock the phone as they are not able to unlock iPhones. They have limited access to unlocking services and will refer you to T-Mobile. Follow these steps to unlock your iPhone.
Steps To Unlock Your iPhone (T-Mobile ONLY)
1) Call T-Mobile customer service or message them through the T-Mobile app and let them know that you would like the phone unlocked. They should be able to unlock the phone after you provide them with the IMEI number.
2) If T-Mobile gives you the runaround and tells you that they can't unlock your phone because it was not sold by them but by Best Buy, contact Apple Support. DO NOT GO THROUGH BEST BUY. Let Apple know that you reached out to T-Mobile but they don't want to unlock the phone because it was not sold by them. Ask Apple to reach out to T-Mobile while you are on the line with them. Apple should be able to get in touch with T-Mobile. At that point you'll be on a 3 way phone call. Explain to T-Mobile your situation and tell them that you want to get your phone unlocked. They're going to tell you that they'll be reaching out to their "Back Office" to unlock the phone. After that, you should be fine. It may take a few hours from contacting the Back Office for them to unlock the phone.

899.99 with activation (upgrade in our case with her line, so $100 off)
-$540 trade in of Iphone 11 Pro 64GB
= $365 after tax for instore pick up on Sept 28th.
I've never done a trade in with bestbuy but I think their instructions just say to bring in the phone when you pick up your new device?
I am just curious if you were able to go through with the preorder. When I try to do it, I get this message (also a simple choice customer)
"We're sorry, but your account type isn't supported with Best Buy. Please contact T-Mobile for additional details."
I am attaching the screen shot here as well

But idk why it would matter since it's unlocked. Choosing between tmobile iPhone 12 Pro vs Verizon iPhone 12 Pro carrier gives you $100 more off even though you have T-Mobile as your carrier

Apple: iPhone 13 pro max 1099 - 790 12 pro max trade - $200 bill credit T-Mobile (or $500 magenta max)
Bestbuy: 13 pro max 999 - 775 12 pro max trade (plus activation?)
Same with another example (but less of a diff)
Apple iphone 13 799 - 230 XR trade - $200/$500 bill credit
Best Buy iphone 13 699 - 330 xr trade + activation
Looks like people are right. The 12 series does not get the extra $100. Best Buy might be the more convenient deal for those trading in lower than a 12. But those in magenta max should do the apple deal.
