  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

It has to be unlocked?
No idea but it makes sense because technically my phone can be plugged in Sprint or any other network.

So i just got a question can i trade in an iphone 12 mini that still has 12 months of EIP on it? or do I have to pay it off before trade in?
No, you don't have to. Repaying the EIP is the obligation between you and tmo.

Right before I get to checkout it says my account type isn't supported by Best Buy. Any idea why that is?

I believe you have to pay it off, unless TMO lets you do EIP on top of EIP!

I actually have more line with no EIP on them that i can use to get the phone, but I am debating if the phone needs to be paid off before the trade in. I could not find any info about that.

The Tmobile Phone from Apple is coming unlocked with esim, while BestBuy is coming with physical sim which is locked. While you can unlock it after 40 days, I am wondering if its better to get the phone with esim already activated. I remember last year it was a nightmare trying to get Tmobile to turn use esim on my fully paid iPhone. Anyone has any perspective?

It didn't work for me, I believe it's because I have the same plan as you, Simple Choice.
Seems like there are some versions that work and some that don't. Mine is called "Simple Choice North America 10GB" code NAFUTT4 if that helps.

I was able to upgrade 2 phones at Best Buy to pre-order the regular 13's.

"Bill credits will be applied over 24 months toward your rate plan charges; must be active and in good standing to receive credits; allow 2 bill cycles from valid submission and validation of trade in. If you cancel or downgrade your wireless service before receiving 24 bill credits, credits will stop. "

2 years to stay with magenta max to get the $500, that's too much.
