  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

It looks like a wash if I get a 13 Pro with trading in my 11 Pro from Apple ($999 - $450 = $550 *.97 = $532 - $200 T-Mo bill credits = $332.53)
vs
Best Buy: $899 - $560 (in-store, instant discount) = $339.

Avoiding the hassle of trading into Apple (safe) and T-Mo bill Credits (2 years, watching for them) vs. maybe an hour* in Best Buy might be a good investment of my time.

*I've never had a good phone experience in Best Buy...
I think I answered my own question with that * comment. I save $7, AND don't have to enter a Best Buy store, where they try to sell me accessories and/or change my plan "accidently". T-Mo has been pretty good with Bill Credits in the past, correcting them when they've been called out on a mistake. <shrug emoji>

That, and it's too late to cancel my Apple pre-order, so I'd have to return that regardless...

I get the following error: We're sorry, but your account type isn't supported with Best Buy. Please contact T-Mobile for additional details.

Best buy told me they can't do anything about it cause I'm on Simple choice plan and it's grandfathered in... idk how some other people on SC are getting their order to go through.

We are SOL. I have been trying for the past 2 days with TMob and BBuy but no one was able to help. If we have some corporate discounts then we are out of luck. I hope you have the discounts on your simple choice plan.

Yes, I believe the account I'm on has some government discount.
Can you let me know if you get it to work somehow?

Let's say I want to use it on Mint Mobile and I buy the T-Mobile variant. Do I have to get it unlocked? I remember my locked T-Mobile LG G6 working fine on Mint.

Can those that got denied with their old SC plan list what their plan code is? Maybe that will help others.

As I noted before, my SC plan is NAFUTT4 and I was able to go through the Best Buy upgrade process to order 4 separate iPhone 13 phones with no issues.

On the order page, it says "TMO KEEP EXISTING PLAN" so I'm expecting no change at all.

With taxes, for me, it was just $86.19 to upgrade from a 12 to a 13. Fantastic deal IMO (assuming no issues when I go to BB on Friday to trade and do the upgrades). No mentions of additional activation fees, so there better not be.

Oh, is that the issue? Then I will remove the discount. I have a government affiliation "discount" that does not even give me any discount any longer I think. It might just be a remnant on the account.

Edit: Here we go: Includes $0.45 Corporate Volume Discount on the Netflix subscription. Maybe that's what's messing up the BB checkout. Probably worth removing it. ;-)

There's no estimate on ship date. When I looked at Apple store app it was showing mid October currently.

If you try too many times in a day then I believe best buy will stop sending you text code.

It will work out of the box for mint at least that's my experience when I got the T-Mobile iphone 11. The other thing is you don't have to wait to unlock when you use Twitter to ask T-Mobile force to unlock it so that may save you the extra cost of waiting to unlock- just cancel after unlocking through Twitter

Keep us update how it goes. Maybe try to remove the discount, get this deal, then add it back somehow?

Thanks - so does it mean we won't get option/time to do transfer from old phone to new phone in store during trade in?
There is an easier way. Apple iOS 15 will allow you to backup in iCloud for free to transfer to a new iPhone. Upgrade to iOS 15 on your old phone, backup to iCloud, then get your new phone and restore from iCloud.

I would do a local backup as a failsafe just in case.
