  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

Existing TMO customer here with a iPhone 12 pro max which is still on EIP and receiving monthly credits by TMo on the same.. today i went to a tmo store and manager told me in order to keep my TMO credit coming monthly i only needed to pay the remaining total amount of the part im being charged.. so i did that.

Question: I already placed the preorder with trade in, will i have any issues when i go to best buy to do the trade in? Wondering if it will still show as money owed or something.. someone familiar with this type of cases?

It happened to me also, I use the chat function and told them the problem, and they have someone from the mobile phone service gave me a call. The service operator said there is some problem with the online service since Bestbuy just added T-mobile back to their service. So, they did the purchase and exchange over the phone with me done in 5 minutes.
so in the end u got the instant credit or monthly credits?

It does not sound right to me. I would think it's either 1) even if you currently have a remaining balance from your previous financing, you can still upgrade as you are paying a full price with trade-in credit in one-shot, not spread over time or 2) T-mobile only allows you to fully pay off the remaining balance before you go ahead and buy something as an upgrade. I would think it's more of 1) since you are fully paying for the upgrade? like if you lost your financed phone, I dont think you would be required to pay in-full or only pay your "true" portion of the monthly charge before buying another phone at full price? I do not think there is a requirement of your trade-in phone being fully paid before doing the trade-in unless you are obtaining another trade-in credit over 24 months or so. The best buy deal is more like immediate reduction to the purchase price of the new phone.

I'm just double checking… doing a T-Mobile upgrade will not change my rate plan?? I have this awesome grandfathered T-Mobile one plan and I don't want it to mess it up with all the discounts and free lines….

Guys. I want to provide some clarity here because I see some confusion in this thread. I am doing this deal myself, I work for Best Buy, and was in mobile at one point. With that, these views are my own and do not represent those of the company in any way. Just trying to help all of you with my personal experience.

1. You are trading your phone into Best Buy. T-Mobile rules for their trade in are obviously different. You will not walk out with the phone you are trading in, so prepare accordingly with your plans for data backups.

2. On this deal, the Best Buy system gives you the "boosted" credit at acceptance of trade in (on the spot) but requires coupling with the activation. It is an instant credit right there. No bill credits or anything like that for this one.

3. At the moment Best Buy cannot do T-Mobile installments on existing accounts, as you can see right on the website by way of it not being an option. The full integration into the Best Buy systems post Sprint merger, which is when TMO even came into play at Best Buy is not yet complete. The device itself will never touch your T-Mobile account billing wise, but for the Best Buy systems to allow you these instant discounts, you have to have the phone activated through them.

This is a very good deal regardless of retailer or channel, mainly because everything is on the spot, nothing to do with carrier billing or monthly bill credits, which I like to call "quasi contracts." Sure you can leave, but it can be very hard to swallow losing your remaining credits.

Honestly this is likely a nice side product of the pending full system integration thing I mentioned to some extent but that's just completely speculating, because I have seen plenty of nice instant savings deals with activation at Best Buy too on an IB agreement. For those they typically show up as a down payment right on your finance agreement, so they are still instant and they just reduce your amount financed. This has been and will continue to be a significant plus to going through Best Buy for activated devices on IB, usually carrier direct has to do with bill credits, but sometimes you can even stack the carrier and Best Buy promotions on top of each other (i.e. save $100 at activation as Best Buy promotion and another $200 over 24 months on your bill as Verizon promotion, just a random example) but that's not an absolute blanket rule for every last type of promotion either.

I hope this helps someone out there as mobile promos can be confusing at times for sure.

So you were on EIP and you paid it off, right?
If that is the case then you should be ok.
When an account is on EIP (money owed) , can not do another one (EIP on top EIP!).

Thanks for providing some clarity. Can you chime in on trading devices still on T-Mobile EIP? I'm seeing mixed answers

I'm assuming Best Buy has some sort of IMEI checker that can tell?

The only thing I can really tell you for sure is, trade in is only in store and although there is universal check for lost/stolen IMEI etc, the checks for things like IB can indeed vary by carrier and stuff like that. Pretty sure I've personally seen Verizon rejected for example due to active IB, but I could be wrong and it's been years.

But so with that, the only thing I can tell you for sure is that you can try going into any Best Buy's mobile desk and ask them to see if a regular run of the mill trade in will take your IMEI (of course obviously don't complete it.) If it accepts the IMEI in that test scenario you're good, if it doesn't then there's an issue you need to resolve.

Does any one successfully got $720 trade in deal on iPhone 13 tmobile promotion listed in best buy pre order page? Their promotion clearly says $720 on iphone 12/mini/pro trade in. However when i checked with Best Buy associate, they themselves not clear. They say it's upto but the wording says 720 for 12 series. Doesn't make sense to me. Anyone can clarify?

Actually it's very simple, Best Buy will not take a phone from you as a trade, if the phone is not fully paid and you are owed money on it.
