  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

This is quite risky for me since I have $18/month discount. Don't want to remove it then might not be able to add it back.
Yea I agree. I also had a 15$ gov discount on my Simple Choice plan last year. Everyone was saying T-mobile getting rid of these discount soon so I proactively jumped on the Value Essential plan from my grandfathered Simple Choice plan. My SC was a 2GB data plan so by paying about 15$ extra for 4 lines, I got the unlimited data plan that was total worth upgrade for me. So I switched.

Changing the account type isn't the "same" as removing the government discount, but it could have that impact. The rep who handled the change of my account type was able to check to see if I would lose any of my discounts (government or otherwise).

I'm on the chat line with TM right. Let's see if they can change the type without losing the discount. I would also like for them to confirm if I can change it back once my upgrade went through.

UPDATE: Got a reply
" I wish that was an option, but once you switch off the discount program / government discount it would be lost forever as the percentile discount portion of the program ceased being offered in 2014 and you've continued to be enrolled because you had it already when it ceased being offered. If you were to change it or change to a non-qualifying plan, then you would no longer fall into that category and would lose the percentile discount. ^ReggieReese"

Yea, you are out for this BestBuy deal. Try the Costco deal as that might go thru. I just dont like to deal with rebates.

I already traded in my iPhone XS and ordered the iPhone 13 I gotta talk to t mobile soon and fully pay off my xs before iPhone 13 releases. Should I ask them asap if they're able to remove the activation fee or should I just ask them once I try activating the iPhone 13

Now finally figured out how to avoid the cannot add to cart error... For my case I have to remove both the netflix and auto pay discount from my magenta max account. As soon as these two are removed, order just went through without any issue.

did you buy iphone 13 with your iphone XS on t-mobile.com or on bestbuy.com? Just wondering cuz it looks like you are trying to pay off the balance on XS. Is it necessary even if you are paying the full price for iphone 13 with the one-time credit against the purchase price? Certainly, the bestbuy deal did not seem to require the remaining balance to be paid off before trading the same phone in against the new iphone 13 purchase?

I bought my xs from t mobile and there's $100 balance remaining (5 more monthly payments of $20) got $320 for it from bestbuy trade in. Knocked the iPhone 13 down to 600 something. I gotta pay it off asap before 13 comes out

Thanks.. do you have to pay the remaining balance before iphone 13 comes out? is it a requirement? (i.e. Bestbuy would not let you take the iphone 13 without fully paying off your iphone xs? I was wondering cuz I bought iphone 13 pro max on bestbuy.com with iphone 12 pro trade-in, which I had bought from T-mobile last year and have the installment payment through next year. Since the best buy deal is not dealing with the installment payment plan (it is paying the full price with one-time trade in credit), I did not think that I have to pay off my iphone 12 pro before going to bestbuy for iphone 13 pro max. I expected my iphone 12 pro installment payment with the monthly credit would still go all the way to next year whether I trade-in iphone 12 pro or not.

I'm not sure to be honest but I'm guessing you do have to pay it all off first since I think they're gonna charge you for upgrading early? Idk. Idk when I became eligible for an upgrade. But If I have to pay it off I'll go ahead and do that. If not, even better

The additional $500 credit is mentioned under "T-Mobile Special Trade-in Deal" at Apple Store.

For iPhone 13 I used the Best Buy deal since the phones are $100 off and they give the most for my trade in phones without touching my plan.
So, not sure if you know answer to this.. but wanted to ask: I have iphone 12 pro on installment plan with monthly credit (through next year) that I purchased from t-mobile.com. I placed an order for iphone 13 pro max on bestbuy.com and will be trading in the iphone 12 pro. This is not an upgrade involving another installment payment nor monthly credit promotion, would they force me to pay off my EIP balance before trading in the iphone 12 pro and walking out with iphone 13 pro max? This bestbuy deal has nothing to do with installment plan or monthly credit.. so I consider almost like buying a new phone at full price... just getting a reduction to the purchase price for the trade-in.... Is this consistent with what you think?

I think you can upgrade on tmobile.com to any phone by paying a full price while you are still on the EIP. They do not ask you to pay off EIP before buying something at full price. They will ask you to pay off fully if you are going to be on another EIP with monthly credit promotion.

Trying this on an Essentials plan with an iPhone 6s Plus. The bonus $200 trade in credit doesn't seem to be showing up at checkout. Anybody else experiencing this??

If they check the IMEI number they can see if the phone is still financed and with which carrier.
