  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores

    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

People are just weird to think that EIP is something similar to a vehicle loan.
Last I checked, there is no repo for the phone. It's yours when you bought it with or without EIP. If you stop paying t-mobile, the balance goes to your credit. They ain't want that phone back.
Now, if you have a JoD phone, then the phone is a loaner. You broke, lost or traded it in, then you pay for it.
So does it make no difference at Best Buy if we say the line we are upgrading is the line the EIP phone is attached to?

No. You will still continue to pay the EIP after you trade-in the phone. If you have promo credits, you will continue to receive them.

You will need to call T-Mobile to cancel. The service is activated already.

Just order online because I don't think they have extra inventory in-store.

You can pay it off now or continue the EIP monthly payments, Bestbuy doesn't check anyway. But it cannot be a blacked listed phone because they will do a factory reset when you trade-in. You will still continue to receive the credits as long as your line is active.
The attached photo is the order detail. If I click 'set up mobile service' button, it will let me choose from different companies including T-mobile.
Do you think my plan has already been activated and I need to pay T-mobile monthly fee?
If not, I would like to insert Visible sim, and let the phone locked to visible for 60 days

Had a little bit of a wait, maybe 15-20 minutes, as it was busy. I already wiped my trade-in before I left home, so he just took the IMEI and traded it in. The trade-in paperwork shows the original value and then the $100 bonus is reflected on your pickup info once they complete the pickup.

Guy had some issues scanning the SIM card initially but got it finally and asked me if I wanted to set it up at home, I said yes, so he just handed me the phone unopened with the sim stuck to the box. Didn't even try to upsell me on any insurance plans or cases. I may do future pickups from BB, overall a good experience.

Anyone figured out what sim to use to avoid it being locked to a network upon first inserted SIM?

I got my 12PM from that promo too. I paid off my EIP after 2 days and I'm still getting my credits. BestBuy don't care if it's not paid off yet, as long as it's not blacklisted.

The plan is probably activated just not the sim card. Bestbuy was having issues activating the sim cards. Call T-Mobile and see if the service was activated. There's no contract so you can cancel at any time and get a prorated bill. If you wait, you might will be billed for the full month later.

We gotta use a bit of common sense here.
Since BB rep didn't ask where the phone came from, how I acquired it and most likely didn't care because that's not one of the questions popping up on the BB's POS screen, .... I didn't want to stand there and tell them that I financed that phone with t-mobile and t-mobile has the ability to blacklist the IMEI if I hypotherically stop making payment for it. blah blah blah...
However, I bet some slickdeals experts on here would demand the BB rep to call his/her superior to check with corporate if the EIP phone is eligible for trade in.

I did mine through the website vs the app… when I did that, this error went away… good luck

Not sure how Visible does their unlocking - I'm hesitant to try. I can eventually run the phone on T-Mobile for 40 days or more.

Let me know if you lock to visible and it ends up unlocking down the road

I had issues Friday at one Best Buy. Over the weekend I placed an order at a different Best Buy and went in today. Absolutely no issues with processing trade. Receipt doesn't show extra $100 trade value but I didn't pay anything, just what I paid online.
After the trade, Rep entered the sim number manually (after it didn't scan) and all went smoothly and asked if I wanted to activate and test or just wanted the box as is. I chose as is and she handed me the box. 20 minutes Tops.
It seems some Best Buys have their stuff in order with knowledgeable reps while others struggle to figure out ways around the hiccups.
Wow, order placed on the weekend and was already in stock and picked up today?

I tried trading in a SE on Friday and they did everything they could including calling the escalation line to see if they could credit me the $858.55 it showed but the value of the phone kept coming up at $68. I spent almost 1.5 hours there with them trying to help me.
I tried to trade in my SE on Saturday. They couldn't get the value of $964.32( 128GB model) and the system kept showing $76.
He called their support line to see how they can sell it but I was told its a known issue they will try to fix it over the weekend. There is a ticket opened in my order and name.
So if you are trying to trade SE, then I bet you can't.
I am hoping they don't do the same for my wife's 12 Pro max trade in with a Value of $875( its a 256GB model, very good condition). Her phone will be ready for pick up on the 28th.
