  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

How is ur experience with the increased weight and thickness of 13 pro?
Which one do you plan to get?
The 13 Pro Max is about 250 gram. Some reviews have said that holding it more than a few minutes becomes uncomfortable.

How long it usually for T-Mobile to unlock the device, iMessage T-Mobile told me 72 hrs? Just want to make sure the rep did the right thing and I'm not wasting 3 days and contact them again
Here is my experience, I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max which I bought last Friday and an iPhone 13 I bought this Wednesday.

Last Saturday I chatted with the customer service via app chat and put in a request for unlock, rep told me he is expediting it and it will be unlocked in 24hrs.

Monday evening my sim was still locked, so I contacted them again, this time a different rep told me that since it was bought from bestbuy they need to manually process the unlock and he is going to escalate it and it will be unlock in 24-72 hrs

Wednesday night, I got the iPhone 13 and contacted Tforce via twitter to unlock it

Thursday my iPhone Pro 13 Pro max was still sim locked, this time contacted TForce to check the status, rep tole me that due to the time of the year and with the release of new iPhone it is taking them a while to do unlock, he verified my unlock request and told me that it should be unlock by next Tuesday.

Today (Friday) my iPhone 13 is unlocked now (took a day and half) and my iPhone 13 Pro Max still shows Sim Locked.

Based on my experience, I would say contact TForce via twitter.

Had a horrible experience with this deal at Best Buy. My iphone 11 was in 'fair' condition (cracked back) - but there was no way to reflect it on the pre order.

So the actual trade in value would be $90 less and I'd owe that difference when I picked it up today. Fair enough, I'd still be getting the $100 trade in promo bonus so my 11 for a 13 mini would be closer to 250 than 140.

After fighting with the clueless employees about the cracked back (not knowing their own policies) It turns out the system has no way to adjust the expected trade in with the actuals. It took an hour and a half of bumbling employees and 2 managers having no clue what to do before they decide to cancel my order. Then, they can't get the T-Mobile upgrade to verify (after telling them that there might be a cooldown period after cancellation) and eventually they tell me no promos apply to buy the phone outright, rather than upgrade. I protest and they all go back to the office to meet with the big boss.

When they eventually disbanded their conference 20 minutes later, the big boss doesn't even come and explain things to me. He sends a lackey to tell me they'll only honor the $100 off the msrp - not the trade in promo bonus that got added in my preorder because they screwed up the verification with T-Mobile.

Never ever will I buy mobiles from Best Buy again. I had my time wasted and walked out paying more than I originally should have on top of having to use my original SIM because they sidelined T-Mobile (this also might throw a wrench in getting the phone carrier unlocked because T-Mobile does not have the device in their system despite it being locked to their network due to best buy incompetence.
If the phone is cracked, front or back, it is not accepted for trade-in. This is the same at Apple or T-Mobile. Not sure where you got the $90 less from. Other than the activation issue (I just used my old sim and they didn't need to open the box), the trade-in went pretty smooth.

You could have canceled the old order and place a new order at the store. But the value of your phone would still be zero because it's cracked.

Have done many trade-ins at T-Mobile and cracked back glass is actually acceptable for trade-in at T-Mobile. They only care that it turns on, has no water damage, and isn't cracked on the front screen.

I'm not familiar with Best Buy's policies regarding back glass for trade-in though.

Nice straight forward pickup today from Best Buy. I did have the guy open and backup the phone in store. When I backed up the phone at home from my 2010 Macbook Pro, the iPhone 12 reverted back to an older state with a bunch of contacts missing and texts starting back in 2013 and older. No recent texts. Crazy funny to read some of my texts from back then, but obviously something wasn't right.

He fixed that, but now that I'm home, the phone won't answer calls. It just goes to voicemail. In addition, the number is not mine so it hasn't transferred over. I called Best Buy Mobile but they said it's a Tmobile issue. I'm on hold now with Tmobile, 23 minutes and counting. Ugh.

Yes, once the new phone is unlocked, you can port out without any fees or penalties. I plan on doing exact same thing.

Did you go on the Best Buy website and click on Set Up Mobile Service to activate the SIM card?

Yes did that. Not sure how long it takes, but phone wouldn't make or receive calls. Got through to Tmobile and they got it working and are now transferring my old phone number. Not sure where the problem was. I should have checked everything at the store but guy was swamped at end of night so I left. Felt bad for him only 1 person doing phones.

Is there any benefit when activate using BB website for all the upgrade folks? For me, I didn't. They gave me the new sim card and asked if I needed to insert into the new phone, I said no and walked out with the phone + new sim card? I just used my old sim card and activated the phone on Saturday after the launched date. Message Tforce on Tuesday and got my phone unlocked Thursday.

I used a number from another plan to do the upgrade because my plan isn't eligible for some reason. Also, I was afraid when they tried to activate the new sim, which means the current sim from the # that I used to do the trade in would be deactivated and I had to ship the sim to that person.

I always go to mytmo account to update a new sim card whenever I need to. So I don't know the reasons or benefits using BB to activate sim card.

I never used BB website for activation. I purchased my device using their site, picked up the device, threw their Simcard, and put my old one in there.

as long as the old SIM is a Tmo SIM, it should work right away, right?

Service will activate but enhancements to 5G networking require a SIM stamped with "R15."
