  • How Trade-In Works:
    1. Calculate your trade-in phone's value
    2. Buy your new phone online
    3. Complete your new phone purchase online and activate your phone on the carrier's network (Best Buy will help with all that.)
    4. Pick up your new phone in one of our stores
    5. Bring your trade-in phone with you when you pick up your new one. Best Buy will check to make sure you're trading in the same phone you told them about online and check for any damage that might make your trade-in ineligible for the promotion.
    6. Best Buy will take your trade-in's value off the cost of your new phone.
      • Trade-in value is calculated to represent a working phone that turns on and does not have a cracked or broken screen. Your phone will be evaluated when you trade it in to validate that it meets all requirements.
      • Your order must be picked up from a store to complete your trade-in and apply its value to your new phone purchase.

just picked up my iphone 13 pro max blue 128gb and here is the entire process:
Im upgrading / trading my iphone 11 pro max .
Pre-ordered yesterday 09/23/2021 around 10 AM.
got a text an email this morning saying its ready to pick up.( was kinda surprised about this , but ig because this best buy has less people preordered , or got more stock , im in missouri)
I backed up my old phone to my computer . and reset the phone.
Got to best buy( I was one of the first 3 people there so i got help right away) , the guy asked me for my order number and name, then told me to get with a lady.
the entire pick up was about 15 mins, she asked for my id , then my old phone, she spent most of the time input stuff into the system. I confirmed on the machine my info is correct. she handed me the new iphone new in box with a sim card on top. I asked if she need to activate the phone or anything and she said no , when i put in the phone it should activate it self. got the phone and the receipt , now im heading home.
She didnt open the new phone box at all , she didnt ask if I need to transfer my old phone data to the new phone ( might be she noticed my old phone got reset)

iPhone 13/pro is the weakest upgrade.
Only do it if you have a iPhone 8 or below.
Not worth $700/800 after all the hassle that you have to go through.
Your XR should be good through iPhone 14

HELP PLEASE? does anyone got kinda error message.
"We're sorry, but your account type isn't supported with Best Buy. Please contact T-Mobile for additional details."
Heard that coming up on plans with business benefits. Maybe try going through web or app and if that changes anything. Or if you have any friends or family that are also T-Mobile customers, you can ask them to place the order for you.

Spent 2 hours in bestbuy to try and pickup and left empty handed. None of the employees or their superiors could figure things out. They weren't going to honor the online price (I already paid either). Were trying to get me to re-buy but at $100 more. After 2 hours of drama I walked out and will be picking up an iPhone at Apple this week. I'll gladly spend the extra $ to not have to deal with BestBuy.
First time I had to wait 30mins or so because pick up guys didn't know what to do. I was then referred to the mobile stand and the guy there knew what to do. I went straight back to him for another pick-up the next day and it was easy peazy. It really depends on the Best Buy reps at not all of them are trained on trade-ins.
They mainly need your name and phone number. They can then pick your order from the queue in the system and then follow the trade in steps on screen. They check your ID and enter your information. They take pictures of your trade in device and they are even reminded in their system to check for Find my phone to be disabled. The printed receipt you would get doesn't show the extra $100 trade in promotion but it's honored on the credit card charge. I will have to 2 more Minis to pick up when they are ready.

Concur. When they gave me a copy of my trade in it showed the trade in value of my old phone before the extra $100

Trade in and pick up
I am, did 2 trade ins 2 different days last week. Both smooth; they let me take the sealed boxes and sims home (tried to set up there but I said I had done it a million times and could do it) just had to enter the sims in on their end (do it without the F on the end to get it to work) and I was on my way. The longest part is them asking all the random info, you confirming, signing, waiting for the computer etc. When home, I swapped sims and entered the new ones on the "change to new sim" section of the Tmobile account and both worked immediately. Never had to speak to Tmobile once.

I went mid day during the week when I was 1st and 2nd in line so that's why it was painless, but Saturday may be busier - try going early.

Change 'my store' to the store where you see the availability and then try to buy it from that store. I have seen this working this way
Wow what a work around. Placed an order and was available for pickup within 24 hours. Thanks a lot! My original preorder was back ordered for 2+ weeks.

what was the issue?

My order had to be cancelled due to the Red iPhone SE having the $856 value which they would not honor.
So the rep cancelled and did the order on the spot, this time with me trading in my iPhone 12 pro for $800.
So, it is possible to do the $100 off promo in store, not sure why they didn't want to do it for you

The Best Buy clerk could not complete the trade-in and sale, the Best Buy system kept rejecting it at the screen where he scans (or types in) a SIM card number that comes with the new iPhone. The clerk showed me this screen to explain.

He and the manager had no idea what was wrong or how to fix it. They basically just said come back tomorrow and we'll try again?

Anyone know what was wrong here?
My rep couldn't scan the sim either, he just typed it manually and voila

Clueless girl said she needed to put the sim in to activate it. They don't have any right to do that do they? We're buying the phones out right

Lucky. All 23 stores within 68 miles of me are on backorder. Looks like Best Buy didn't expect such a high demand. Who ever would've thought people would be stepping over themselves to get the newest iPhones for basically free?

That's actually correct, the phone will not activate without the sim, it's some Apple restriction on devices sold by 3rd party.

And on top of that, Apple locks the device to T-mobile and you need to submit a request to unlock it... really stupid considering we are indeed buying it out right.

You are not buying it outright - you get it at $100 retail discount and inflated trade in value. I am surprised that TMobile actually is willing to unlock anything before a year or two lapse, because they are funding the discount.
It will be "yours", if you buy from BB or Apple at full retail price - when you choose a model that is "unlocked" on BB website for example.

Anyone still waiting on *any* updates from Bestbuy? Placed my order 9/21 for pro max 128 in Sierra blue but haven't heard anything at all since then.

BB just updated trade in values for some phones. For iPhone 12, it is $625 now (the previous value is $620).
