I bought the older Sony model from Sony directly about 6-7 years ago for same price. Why did 5.1 AV receivers suddenly jump in price? You used to be able to regularly get them for less than $200 and now $300 is considered a decent deal. bizarre.

STRDH540 was $166 I bought in Jan 2014. These should be $100 now 😁

I got the older version of this too for $25 and Sony bookshelfs for $10 at Walmart on clearance. I've been wanting to upgrade for a year now but I've noticed that they've been way more expensive even for lower end models.

My guess is that people are using sound bars more and audio on LCD TVs have gotten better.

Plus I feel like part of that home theater experience is gone with everything going to streaming. So you aren't seeing HTIB included with the 5 disc DVD changers. Also I can't remember the last time some guy in a white van offered to sell me a 7.1 home theater system valued at $3,000 for $250 anymore.

Looking at Amazon price history it seems like this was $278 when it was first released in 2018, dropped to as low as $178 in 2020, but jumped to $328 in May of this year. It's current MSRP is $330 and it may always have been that, so due to current market conditions sellers are now asking full price.

There are none of these available at any Walmart anywhere near me. Given that this this a 3 year old product that has been superseded by soundbars for most people, I'm guessing there isn't a lot of them anywhere. Anyone in the market for an AVR now will likely expect 7.2 minimum and with Atmos, even if their budget is barely $300. The next model up, Sony STR-DH790 7.2 system, has been under $300 for much of its life but now sellers are asking the MSRP of $450. Not a good time to buy these... or cars... or just about anything. Since people have been in their houses for the past 18 months and not going to the theaters, AVRs are in high demand. You are right, not a good time to be buying MANY things Frown

That sticker is a manual single item markdown. It is not a clearance price and you will not likely be able to replicate this deal.

FBMP has dozens of decent AV receivers for great prices. If all you want is decent 5.1, take a look. I wanted a replacement for the circa 1998 Sony I had in our beach house. Found a local dude selling a Pioneer VSX-820K for $80...missing the battery cover for the remote. I cut up a spent gift card and snapped it in.

Seems the only electronics not effected by "supply chain issues" are TVs these days.

Have you heard of inflation? $1 six years ago is worth more…
