These are pretty much the best value HEPA air purifiers you can find. Keep in mind they come with 2 years' worth of filters (a total of 8 pre-filters and 2 HEPA filters), while most only come with the initial set.

They are rated with a CADR (clean air delivery rate) of 232 CFM, which (depending on ceiling height and how many air changes per hour you want) are generally really solid for about a 350 sq. ft. room (at 5 ACH).

My only nitpick is that this is a combo HEPA filter + ionizer, and generally I avoid ionizers/plasma/oxidizers -- true HEPA filters are more proven and produce zero potential byproducts. Sending ions into the air has the potential to create ozone or react with various things in the air to produce VOCs. These are certified by CARB to be very low-ozone, though. You CAN turn off the "Plasmawave" ionizer, but you have to re-do it every time you turn the unit back on.

It comes with Wi-Fi to control it, which may or may not be useful to you. Works fine for me so far.

You can turn off the ionizer via the App control or by pressing and holding both the left and right arrow buttons for about 3 seconds.

While WiFi features may seem a gimmick, it does add extra features and controls (obviously besides just controlling it remotely). The app will include scheduling to automatically turn it on and off at the same time, which would otherwise have to be implemented via a screen and more buttons on the unit which would in turn increase cost.

My research seems to suggest they're pretty similar. Coway has a more sensitive sensor. At this point I'm resigned to wait for a sale on Winix 5500 or the Coway Airmega and only that particular model of Coway due to the design/looks.

Coway seems to be slightly better but filters are more expensive and some report they have a chemical smell. Winix C535 has much cheaper 3rd party filters and versus the c545 a remote and a better designed cover.

Anyone have a link or recommendation for the Winix 3rd party filters? Also, how often are you having to change the filter?

How often you change the filter largely depends on the air quality in your home. I live in California where there's been a lot of smoke and dust from wildfires, and that has meant changing the filter every 6-8 months.

I bought 2 of these last time they were on sale. They're reasonably quiet on all but the highest fan speed and the smart control lets us set a good schedule for the bedroom unit (blast it on high while nobody is there, medium during late evening, low when people are sleeping). Power consumption is also surprisingly low.

Waiting for a sale on the filters themselves.

I have 2 units and they are a great value.

Tempted to get another at this price just for the filters...
