Rowing machine is a good workout but man do I find it monotonous.

It's great for people with low back pain, it's easy on the joints also. I recommend if you get one to look on youtube to learn the right way to row

Don't buy this rower. Get on the list for a concept 2. For a $300 more, you could have arguably the best rower on the market.

As the guy above said, save up $300 more and get a concept 2 directly from their website. It's a commercial quality machine for not much more. If you find you don't enjoy rowing much, you can sell it on craigslist for almost the purchase price.

I can't stand it past about 5k, and that's with lots of music or a podcast going. But there are people who spend an hour on a treadmill, too, so to each their own…

Was just about to make a comment about resell.

I personally do not think that all people need to spend $900 for a Concept2. However, the situations where it makes sense is if you are going to be a more heavy rower and/or plan to resell in the future. They have good retention of value relative to other brands.

The other main factor people need to consider is if they want an air rower or magnetic. If you are putting it somewhere very sound sensitive then magnetic will generally be much more quiet than the sound of air moving even though both will have some noise from the seat moving on the rail. Water is usually not too noisy, but has its own maintenance considerations. The feel is different of magnetic versus air, and more people in the market tend to prefer air over magnetic, but for some people noise is a factor.
