I wouldn't advise using the Surface Pro X keyboard even if it works. if you ever used the Surface Pro X, the keyboard had a hard time staying attached to the screen because the bezel was so thin. so it would come off the bezel and kind of flop around. I tried it in the store and it bothered me (I'm a diehard Surface Pro user, owning the Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 2017, and Surface Pro 7 where 4-7 all had excellent typing experiences).

even when it was attached to the screen, the SPX keyboard would be so high that it was hard to touch items near the bezel.

So the CNET guy (or The Verge guy) mentioned that the new version of the keyboard uses carbon fiber and is thinner so it's easier to touch items near the bezel. It also stays attached to the Surface body better. Now that I think of it, it must be The Verge guy. He was banging on the keyboard on purpose to see what the typing experience would be like.
Are you referring to folded or unfolded? I've got the Surface Pro X SQ2 with signature keyboard + pen.

Anyhow, it's true that when folded and held upside down so the keyboard is on the bottom the magnet isn't strong enough to keep it closed due to gravity but it's a non-issue in normal use since carrying in one hand keeps it closed or in a slim shoulder bag.

If unfolded, then false. With it unfolded and the keyboard angled and elevated it's held in pretty well by the magnet even when I pull on it with medium force. As for touching the UI elements towards the bottom edge of the screen where the task bar is it's easily doable with the thumb and pinky but more awkward with other fingers if nails aren't trimmed. Or, just use the touchpad.

I wouldn't rely on The Verge since they're trash. I plan to add the Surface Pro 8 and while the keyboard from the X is reusable I hope the pen is too since I don't care about the haptics.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new keyboard in person, it's built using carbon fiber and should be significantly stiffer than the old one from the Surface Pro X.

I'm relying on my own personal experiences with the Surface Pro X keyboard on a Surface Pro X. The keyboard on the SPX is definitely not as solid as the keyboard on the SP4-7. Of course since you already have stuff you can use, might as well use them. I'm also not buying the new pen because haptics doesn't interest me.

Since I don't own the new keyboard yet, I am relying on The Verge for that information.

I would rely on several sources, the Verge has had some real bad cases of misinformation lately.

Being a long term surface user, the form factor, gets painful to use after a while for the price range I think 16" lg gram touch is a better deal https://www.costco.com/lg-gram-16...39790.html

That's a full laptop lol the only reason to get a surface is to be more portable and get rid of the need of a tablet and laptop

SMH. Why any Windows PC isn't shipping with 16GB minimum is crazy in 2021. Let alone a system were you can't upgrade from the 8GB.

Because most users do not need 16.
Browsing, and maybe office for most, is fine with 8 gb.

As an IT person, I often have to remind myself I am NOT the general audience.

I have a pro 3 i5 8 gb and it runs just fine.

Could it have more zip? Sure. But rarely am I doing work that stresses the system (except Voxelart and sandbox. My pro 3 whines with them).

But most of the stuff I do is fine.

Yeah, the keyboard for pro 8 has carbon fiber base. It's stiffer than any previous keyboards.

The new Surfaces will have 1TB 2230 SSDs, just like the Surface Laptops. I've seen many 1TB 2230 Surface drives on eBay.
Dell makes 1TB 2230 SSD's ~$350

That's why several days ago I listed a whole bunch of 1TB Surface SSDs from eBay in the ~$135 range. For some reason, the post got deleted by the MODS.

The 8gb ram is the deal breaker here, unlike M1 Windows needs more ram for better performance.

Since it's my portable, and not my workstation, I've been OK with 8GB of RAM. I still use an old Dell Venue 8 Pro with 2GB RAM and an Atom processor running W10, and it does amazingly well.

Costco added the i7/16gb/512 config in Graphite. $180 cheaper.

https://www.costco.com/new-micros...03898.html

I'm hoping (but doubt) they will add the i5/16gb/256 config as that's the one I want.

These deals from Costco worry me a bit. Nowhere does it state that it's the new keyboard with the Surface Pen 2. I wouldn't put it past Costco to bundle it with older hardware from the Surface Pro X.

What is the return policy at Costco for laptops? I get 45 days at Bestbuy as an elite member.
