No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).
Damn. I bought my 750h 5 months ago. I cooooould return it. But that's kind of a dick move for a perfectly working item
That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

Total noob to AV here. What does a receiver add to my experience if I have a higher end atmos 5.1.2 soundbar?

Can I do 1440p variable refresh rate pass through 120 hertz? And if not do you know who does that?

If you setup with Audyssey it should be almost exactly the same. It calibrates the speakers to be zero in your room. Short of Audyssey calibrating to +12 (their max) no matter what Denon system you put in there 0 will be the same volume level. If no one has manually changed the settings (I add +2 DB to my sub after calibration) 0 at my house in my listing spot will be the same as your setup in your house. That's why it's called reference level.
Yes, I did go through with the Audyssey set up. I guess it's mainly not seeing the volume in dB confuses me a bit.
Thank you for the information.

Should I get this even if I won't get speakers and tv until I remodel next year, or just wait?

Not even compatable. This is for when you are ready to ditch the soundbar and buy actual speakers.

Nothing. You need actual speakers.

Why do you say that? You have no idea what the OP's setup is. Perhaps the OP just has different rooms with speakers for ambient music. I would get this simple unit or something even cheaper for a garage/outdoor system that has separate zones to play ambient music while I'm lounging/working in my yard or working in the garage. Why should that require a high end unit?
Yamaha TSR-700 does have pre-out for front channels which is a must have for music. I am still using marantz sr7005 with my LG 4k oled through a HDMI splitter. Believe me, there are big difference with or without an amplifier. I am using 3 marantz ma500 to power lsim front and center channels. Ma500 can be bought $100+ each from eBay..

As long as a receiver has multi-channel pre out and dual HDMI out, it will make me happy. Unfortunately I need to go 3700 or higher so I decided to buy a $50 HDMI splitter instead.

Wait.. so im not the only person that around 3am the PS5 would randomly turn on, or if I was playing it, it would switch HDMI inputs?...at 3am... Seriously though. Got the Denon today. So far so good. Tsr-700 going back in the morning. It worked, but I made compromises before with tech companies.. (Samsung Atmos sound bar..) and it's one of the reasons I bought my avr through Costco.

I was having weird HDMI power on and off issues with my TSR-700 too. I turned auto-on-off off on my LG CX. Turned it back on with the S760H and will see how this one behaves.

JBL HT1S home theater subs which needs at least 100 watts each.
No mainstream AVR (I do not consider the HTiB units an AVR) at ANY price will have powered sub outputs. You're better off getting the lowest price AVR that fulfills your main speaker needs then buy a cheap external amp to power your subwoofer via the sub-out connections in the AVR. No point in sending a full range signal to your sub. It will sound like crap if it doesn't have a built in low pass filter.

If you don't need one right now, I would just wait. There haven't been many new releases this year. Yamaha has had 3 new models with premium price points and this is just the 2nd for Denon in 2021. The other one is top tier. So in a sense the 760H is the first, refreshed budget receiver this year which caught everyone by surprise. There is anticipation for newer models from the leading brands which could mean price drop on outgoing models. It makes sense to wait in your situation.

Debating whether I should pick up one of these now or wait for a sale. Once word gets out to all the OLED/PS5/XBX users that there is a HDMI 2.1 capable receiver that actually works and is reasonably priced this thing might be as hard to get as the consoles. Then again maybe I am overestimating the demand for receivers. Hmmnn decisions...decisions.

I was happy to see this on my last visit. Usually they only had sound bar systems as options. I was waiting on a good quality receiver with HDMI 2.1 inputs to upgrade my decade+ old Onkyo receiver that doesn't support 4K or HDR. I can finally play my PS5 with my surround sound set up.

This is a surprising model, 3 hdmi 2.1 inputs, capable of 4k 120, or 8k, and it sounds like they actually work. And this on a more budget model when many of the higher end have only a single hdmi 2.1. This will go perfect with the 4k tv I hope to buy soon.
