No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).

That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

I just bought a another older model Denon recently and returned it as I want to use it in conjunction with Google Assistant. While I could turn it on and off and control volume through Google Assistant, it did not show up as a castable speaker nor was I able to use commands to tell Google to play music from YouTube music on it. Anyone know how to get that to work with the heos app or any other way
You know what's strange? The fact that I can have google play "my playlist" via voice command from an actual google product but can't do it from a third party "google enabled" product, which I feel is bull 💩. Google needs to fix this fubar because it's inconvenient and basically somewhat false advertisement if they don't disclose you can't command a song from your library to play.

With all the new technology constantly coming out, thse AVR receivers are becoming 'obsolete' too quickly to be profitable, through no real fault of their own.

Trying to make a receiver that's future proofed and backwards compatible with every product from Apple, Sony, Google, Amazon, Sonos, pandora, Xbox, 8K, Bluetooths,HDMIs and 30 version of Dolby is impossible.
And then buyers want them to be low priced and family friendly.
But let's be real. If they continue to do all this wireless bs and for some reason it doesn't connect, the wire will save the day. Hybrid is the only way to go.

If you bought it from Costco, they'll take it back, working or not. If it's actually still in perfectly working condition, just let them know that so that they can try and sell it used/without box, etc. All you have to say is that the quality wasn't to your satisfaction for the price and that you think there's better options available out there for you. It can literally just be because "I don't like it." Say you kept it so long because you wanted to give it a full trial, yadda yadda. Most of the time they really don't care.

And if they don't give you your money back for some crazy reason, they'll usually either give you store credit (which you can put towards the new item), or just let you pick out a 'replacement' for the same price or lower. If it's higher, you just pay the difference.

I don't think it's really a dick move. You literally pay them an annual fee just to shop in their store. The rest of the perks are there to both further entice you as well as stave off the competition. They uphold that mighty return policy because it's what keeps people coming back - the safety and security that you can make high priced purchases without the full commitment. MOST of the time we really do stay committed - we just needed that safety net.

Do some people abuse it? Surely. But I doubt it's enough for it to really make any difference to them at the end of the day. They've got a pretty solid business model that's positively thriving, even in these times. So seriously, if you really want this instead, I say go for it. That's the beauty of it. It'll make you happy, right? You'll walk out of there feeling like a king with your new product in hand, and for them, well, they can rest assured you'll be returning again and again and, of course, renewing that membership. 👍🏻 It's a win/win.
Let me simplify the evaluation of returning a perfectly good product 5 months later to exchange it for a newer model.

Rule 1) Don't be a Dick
Rule 2) If the people you are doing it to (Costco) would think you are being a Dick then you are being a Dick
Rule 3) If you have to justify why you are not actually being a Dick... You are being a Dick.
Rule 4) If doing it to your neighbor would qualify you as a Dick, then doing it to Costco is being a Dick.

You need double the power to increase the volume by 3dB. The difference between 75W and 100W is 1dB. Turn the volume up 1dB on your existing system and determine if it's a significant difference to you. Properly setup systems with subs will not even be using 20W/CH let alone 100W.
Also, power is only speced with 2-channels driven. The Sony is rated at 240W at the power supply, while the Denon is rated at 400W. Assuming similar driver efficiency (Class AB), the Denon is the more capable receiver under normal use (all channels driven simultaneously).

Thinking of upgrading from my 8 yr old Sony STR-DN1060. It is still going strong. It has ARC but no eARC. I have a 5.1 setup. I'm buying a new LG C1.

Do I need eARC for 5.1, or will ARC do? I'm a bit confused by this. Thinking I'll just connect all my devices to the TV and just connect the receiver via ARC (including Series X, PS5, NVidia Shield). I know I will lose DTS but other than that, is there any reason to upgrade?

Also, technically this will be a power downgrade (from 100W to 75W) if I move to this receiver. Not sure if it makes a huge difference but wondering if I should wait for 100W models.

Looking to pair this with Klipsch Reference Cinema System 5.1.4 with Dolby ATMOS. Is it worth getting this to power these speakers? or should i go for a more robust receiver?

Which Costco is this? If they dropped it to $399 anybody who has purchased this recently can get a price adjustment.

As long as a receiver has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, I would think companies could at least keep older models relevant with software/firmware updates. Most Apple, Pandora, Sonos, Google, etc. are all connected via a standardized network. As long as there is a decent CPU, RAM and Firmware space, a receiver should have no problems keeping up with those standards, which often times can be implemented via software. The only standard receivers seem to need hardware upgrades for is HDMI. Perhaps some of the audio CODECs could be implemented with firmware/software as well.

I think some companies use these various features as a means to tempt consumers to upgrade their hardware on a regular basis.

I for one purely use my HTR for video switching and audio, and nothing else. All my internet streaming services I run through a device connected to the receiver.

Hey folks, is there a receiver like this (working VRR / HDMI 2.1), that can do 7.1.2 ? I'm looking to finally replace my beloved but "ancient" H/K 254 that I'm using with eARC via a shARC. I already have 7.1 speakers - was hoping to add 2 ATMOS height speakers when I upgrade. Was sad to see this receiver can't do 7.1.2 cause it looks like it has everything else I wanted!

Not sure exactly what you mean but I have other third party products that work just fine with Google instructions. It's just this one does not register on the network as a castable speaker, which is the main issue. Well I should say the model that I bought that is probably 2 years old or maybe 3 years old was not a castable speaker, not sure if this new model has the same issue. But I'm guessing that the link is associated through the hEOS account, that all devices registered via that account are going to have the same issue
