If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

This is all like a foreign language to me and it seems like there's a fairly steep learning curve. Can anyone point me to a good online source for understanding the basics so I can figure out what kind of speakers, subwoofers, and other components to get?
I'm not looking for a high-end setup, but just a reasonably solid budget-friendly system for a smallish (13x15 feet) media room that is prewired for a 7.1 speaker layout. I've never had anything like this, so even a basic system will be a huge upgrade for me. One of the things I'm confused about is whether I should be looking at in-wall/in-ceiling speakers, or some version of free-standing or wall mounted.
Thx in advance for pointing me in the right direction!
In AVR settings, I enabled audio passthrough to TV. However, i cannot get my Xbox to show 4k/120Hz or Dolby Atmos (when compatible content was played).
Am I doing something wrong or does the AVR actually requires 'certified hdmi 2.1' cables to work properly?
P.S. A similar connection strategy works without any issues when using a 4k HDMI switch.

Under settings, you have to select the TV format as '8K Enhanced' although your TV is 4K. That fixed the issue for me. I haven't tested Atmos detection yet, but will update it here.
I did notice the Audussey configuration setup low sound and had to adjust manually on remote-option-channel level adjust and raise my center. So far enjoying sound and video quality. Hoping to get the new XBX over Xmas to enjoy further benefits…

Edit: looks like you already solved your issue by turning on 8k in setting.
