No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).

Damn. I bought my 750h 5 months ago. I cooooould return it. But that's kind of a dick move for a perfectly working item

That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

You're trying to reason with a hater and that's a waste of time. The TSR-700 is a solid machine - I know because I have one and have been using it for the last year. Bitchers will always find a a reason to bitch. Both Denon and Yamaha makes good products that have features appropriate for their price points. I'd be happy to buy either.

Hahahahahahahahah, he we go! No, that's totally cool! Glad to hear it. I was totally kicking myself for missing out on the Yamaha but then this Denon came along. I will probably go with this Denon.

Believe me, I WANTED to like the TSR-700. On paper, it was wonderful, and I loved the price I paid for it ($350). But when you actually use it, problems will show up. Maybe I'm biased because I only use a ShieldTV, which the TSR-700 had the most problems with. With the S760H, there are no problems with ShieldTV.

I would imagine so. Its not like they delete your purchase history when your membership expires.
They wouldn't let me when my treadmill went south. I had to purchase a new membership and then they let me return. I had no problem with that. I did end up purchasing a new one, just because of the great return policy.

well good value is relative. Compared to the s760h? Hell no, it's a crap value.

Changing inputs was slow, changing codecs was slow, sometimes when you changed inputs the picture stayed black, so you'd have to keep switching back and forth inputs until it finally showed up. Dolby vision from shieldtv always resulted in a black screen. Arc had constant audio dropouts and was basically useless, which means you must deal with all of the screen blanking problems.

Honestly the thing was just a headache that was sitting next to my tv. I'd say it's worth maybe a quarter of its selling price, at which point i'd say "ok, at that price i can just put this dinky little machine in my study, though now i also need to buy speakers"

i think it does. Or rather, it sounds a bit brighter, which is my preference, and the signal to my subwoofer isn't getting a ground loop like it was with the yamaha, and the bass also feels a lot more convincing without needing to be louder.
we must return yamaha

I've got mine setup. I noticed the audio is out of sync when watching the tuner built into the LG OLED GX. Maybe there is a setting I can adjust there. I haven't noticed it anywhere else.

Also is it possible to bi-amp the left and right front channels? I didn't notice it during the setup, so I'm guessing no.

There is absolutely no benefit to bi-amping a speaker connected to an AVR like this other than to line the pockets of speaker cable sellers and manufacturers.

Thanks! Will buy them once the 870 deal returns!
The Denon is rated for 4 ohm operation, so it should be able to deliver a reasonable amount of current into a low impedance speaker. The receiver's output section looks decent. Overheating should not be an issue unless you're cranking up the volume with a speaker with less than 87 dB sensitivity.

Remember, it takes two times the power output (in watts) to increase the speaker's volume by 3 dB (slight increase in loudness level). Therefore, a 140W amp is capable of delivering 3 dB more sound pressure level than a 70W amp. Focus on high sensitivity speakers (+92 dB) instead of high powered amp.

I would say, in a ordinary sized room, focus on getting a proper sub and setting up the system properly. That would yield the best bang for the buck and open up the possibility for just about any speaker. Not just ones with high sensitivity ratings that may or may not be accurate.

Any mainstream AVR, at any price range, should be able to power most any speaker + sub setup in real world situations when set up properly.

Thanks for the info! Bought them a few days back! Looks like a good purchase now tgat they have increased the orice by $10 and they are selling out quick. I also see the Adorama deal as active.. so tempting to buy them vs at Costco.

A small 86 dB satellite speaker with 4" driver will not be able to recreate THX sound pressure level in an average room unless you're sitting 10-12 feet in front of the satellite speaker. That's physics. In general, small sized speaker has the advantage of improved imaging at the expense of peak sound pressure level.

A quality high current 70W amp will have better dynamic range, capable of driving difficult speakers (low impedance with complex crossover network) over a mainstream AVR. With proper coaching, most people with good hearing can differentiate between a mainstream AVR and a good amp when connected to a high resolution speaker.

A small to medium sized speaker will have difficulty reproducing sound below 70 Hz. To prevent subwoofer localization, one should use 50 Hz or below crossover. You want a good amp driving good front speakers down to 50 Hz less.

I use 40 Hz crossover for the sub and run the front speakers full range for music.

Aim for quality front speakers that can provide flat frequency response down to 40-45Hz because very few musical material goes this deep. Turn on the sub when you watch a movie. Place one sub near a wall/corner for the flattest frequency response at the main listening position. You should not be able to localize the sub at 45Hz crossover. I like to set the sub's level 2-3 dB above the main speakers.
