No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).

Damn. I bought my 750h 5 months ago. I cooooould return it. But that's kind of a dick move for a perfectly working item

That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

Quote from E4300 :
A small 86 dB satellite speaker with 4" driver will not be able to recreate THX sound pressure level in an average room unless you're sitting 10-12 feet in front of the satellite speaker. That's physics. In general, small sized speaker has the advantage of improved imaging at the expense of peak sound pressure level.
That is true depending on how the crossovers are designed. I never said it could. I said in real world situations. Most people will not be recreating THX SPLs. Most speakers will not be able to handle that much power or even reach 105dBs any way so the point would be moot trying to buy an AVR/amp to even drive them regardless of the sensitivity rating. No reason to talk people into buying way more than they need using unrealistic goals.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, my speakers sensitivity rating is 86dB/2.83V. I sit 9' from them and measure <10W at the posts peak at full reference when crossed at 80Hz to subs.

Quote from E4300 :
A quality high current 70W amp will have better dynamic range, capable of driving difficult speakers (low impedance with complex crossover network) over a mainstream AVR.
Only if the AVR is being driven beyond its capabilities. When both are pushing out 20W and are properly designed, there will be no appreciable difference.

Quote from E4300 :
With proper coaching, most people with good hearing can differentiate between a mainstream AVR and a good amp when connected to a high resolution speaker.
That's debatable. I have all three. A mainstream AVR, good, high powered amp and a high resolution speaker properly setup in a dedicated, well treated room. No one has been able to tell when I'm powering the speakers with the AVR, the class A/B amp or the pro amp. Even when running full range. My main speakers are flat to 18Hz in a 16'x18'x7.5' room. Obviously, don't have the means to switch amps within microseconds, but the switch is within a few seconds so its good enough for government work. Besides, who's going to go through coaching just to be able to listen to music or watch movies at home?

Quote from E4300 :
A small to medium sized speaker will have difficulty reproducing sound below 70 Hz. To prevent subwoofer localization, one should use 50 Hz or below crossover. You want a good amp driving good front speakers down to 50 Hz less.

I use 40 Hz crossover for the sub and run the front speakers full range for music.
Again, true. That is why THX standard is to crossover at 80Hz. Higher if the satellite speaker cannot handle 80Hz. Even at 100Hz, most people will not be able to localize the sub. Properly setup systems will not be playing 70Hz, let alone 50Hz, from any speaker other than the sub which will have its own dedicated amp.

So as I have previously stated, most people in, real world situations, will not need a high powered amp. Any mainstream AVR will suit the needs of most people since they will not be playing their systems any where near reference level SPLs in an average room.

Quote from E4300 :
Aim for quality front speakers that can provide flat frequency response down to 40-45Hz because very few musical material goes this deep.
I would agree with this. Not because of your comment about the frequency response of instruments though. The reason is that you want a speaker that can play down to one octave below the crossover frequency. THX recommends crossing over to a sub at 80Hz so one octave below that would be 40Hz.

The reason is because a crossover is not a brick wall. It is a slope and even though the crossover is set to 80Hz per THX standard, the speaker will still be playing content below that albeit at a MUCH lower level.

Quote from E4300 :
Turn on the sub when you watch a movie.
Satellite speaker should always be run small with the sub on unless you have mains capable of running without a sub. Speakers in that category are few and far in between. Most will be quite large, using multiple 8" or greater drivers for the bass frequencies alone. Even then, running those behemoths as small with a sub will usually have better sound.

Quote from E4300 :
Place one sub near a wall/corner for the flattest frequency response at the main listening position.
Placing the sub in a corner will yield highest SPL due to corner loading of the soundwaves, not flattest response in most rooms. Each room will be different though. Achieving the flattest frequency response requires measuring equipment and knowing how to use it. Using the sub crawl is a quick and dirty way to get a ballpark of where the sub will sound best. In rectangular rooms, that is "usually" in the middle of one of the walls.

Most all of your recommendations appear to be based on your personal experiences and preferences. However, it comes across (to me at least) that you are giving advice based on generally accepted standards which they are not.

Picked this up past week. Retired my 20 year old Harman Kardon. Also got the Infinity tower speakers, sub, and klipsch center…very impressed with this setup in everyway. The bluetooth is awesome and with our new OLED TV movies are amazing!

The receiver's remote uses IR or Bluetooth? Wondering if I can mount this behind the TV and access with the remote (similar to fire stick remote) or the remote needed to pointed to the receiver every time. TIA

Any predictions on whether this is likely to be cheaper in the next 6 months or so? Like many here I'm looking to replace an ancient Onkyo, but am getting by running all my HDMI devices direct to the TV so could wait a bit if it's likely to save me money.
Several people have reported the price actually jumped up from $439 to $449 at their local Costco warehouses.. Hard to say if there will be a price drop given the popularity of this receiver, but with Costco who knows.

Thank you for sharing!

I've been frustrated with the pricing of HDMI 2.AVRs since getting the new consoles and CX LG OLED. Actually,, I'd given up hope and disconnected all my Hue Gradient and Theater Bias and Immersion lighting. Now if I can find one in stock, I can finally use HDR, 120fps, ANd Hue Sync, AT THE SAME TIME.... w/out a splitter or spending $1k.

Does anyone know if the Denon 760H is in stock at any costco in NJ? I have been searching for sometime and can't find stock information anywhere. Any help finding this in a local costco in around NJ would be much appreciated!

Question - I play my Xbox through the AVR, and usually with headphones. I lower the volume to 5.0 to avoid sound coming from the speakers while using headphones. However, despite standby being off, the AVR sometimes turns off seemingly due to inactivity. Anyone have a fix for this?

Just call one of the stores, hit 1 to get the admin desk and ask them to check stock on item #3360461. They'll be able to tell you if that store or any other local stores have it in stock.

Thank you for the info. Managed to pick one up at the Lawreceville, NJ Costco. There were 3 per 4 more units left at that location.

I saw several of these in Edison Costco as well last week.
I had to search the whole store and but it was right there when you enter on the left side.

I have the tsr-700 so this does seem like a good swap losing some power but I'm confused why does the denon box say 75watt but online the manual it says 110w

https://manuals.denon.com/AVRS760.../index.php

https://manuals.denon.com/AVRS760...cmyvmq.php

Which is it?

I would say 75W@8Ohms is the correct specification. However, that would usually be with only 2channels driven, not in multi-channel mode. The links you provided are for the same manual, just different sections. My guess is that the 110W stated in the Overview section is at 6Ohms, but it is incorrect that you would be getting 110W with all channels driven. Look at the Power Consumption specification. It uses 400W. No way an AVR is going to put out more power than it pulls from the wall unless it has massive quantities of capacitors.

The point is mostly moot though. Turn the volume on your current AVR up 1dB. Is there a mind blowing difference to you? Probably not. That is the difference between 75W and 110W. Most people with subs in real world situations in a properly set up system will be fine with most any AVR at any price range from a reputable manufacturer. See my previous posts for explanations why.
