Thanks OP. On mine and spouse's BCP. Any bit helps offset the crazy price increases for groceries and is greatly appreciated.

Never.
Purchased gift cards weekly basis in Kroger/TomThumb with Amex card, Amex always counted for grocery stores bonus for me.
Even though, the T&C says "gift card" purchases are Excluded, but the AMEX has no easy way to know you checked out groceries with gift cards.

Thanks for the HU. I had it on my BCE. Essentially, 5% back on a minimum spend of $200/month. Not suppa crazy good, but decent if you've going to use the card at the grocery anyway.

There is also another offer for $5 when spending $100 on supermarket purchases (added up) within any month. So, you will get $15 if fulfilling the $200 spending mark.

I don't think they do for grocery stores, but remember when they had similar language for the deal you had posted? So that makes it the second time I'm seeing this language for this specific type of an offer.

BCE is giving you 3% on groceries and this stacks -- so 8% on $200 spend for you. Somewhat hotter...

There are various levels of data that processors (MC/VS/AE/DC) can pull from transactions - not just the charge amount but even down to the level of what you bought.

Level II and Level III Processing [cybersource.com]

Level 1 is basically just the whole amount
Level 2 includes above plus tax information (probably important for corp purchases)
Level 3 includes above plus details about the actual purchase, like quantities, SKU, descriptions, etc. AE doesn't have L3 per se but something equivalent (EDC)

But the bottom line is, I've used AE offers on several different cards to buy GC's (3rd party usually) and never had an issue getting an offer.

Sweet. Added it to my card.

Kind of silly, since it's a Blue Cash Preferred (6% on groceries) that I only use on groceries. I would think they'd target this to people who don't normally use their AmEx on groceries.

I'll take the extra $30 though. ($10 a month for 3 months)
