I'm not even going to bother with the litany of misinformation in your post, I'll just point out that if you use Overdrive to borrow Kindle books from the library (for free) and download the files from Amazon to your computer to transfer over USB that once the loan period from the library has ended and the books are removed from your device you can just copy the files back over USB and keep reading them forever.

No, don't pay for ad free. The ads are negligible. They're on the lock screen and if you're in the Kindle store. They don't interrupt your reading in any way.
