Discover Cardholders: Get 20% added value (using rewards) on Happy Gift Cards- Holiday Card good at Lowe's
Log into your Discover account. Go to rewards>Redeem Cashback Bonus>Gift Cards>You can sort by: % Added Value
$20 card is $16 in rewards, Can get up to a $200 card if you have enough rewards. I run mine up on the 5% cash back.
I cashed out my discover cash back for the happy gift cards last year that had Lowe's and GameStop. If your plan is to try to convert to third party gift cards, I wouldn't recommend it. For Lowe's, all the stores around me in Chicago have simply stopped carrying third party gift cards. While on a trip to Bloomington, I stopped at a Lowe's with third party gift cards but the cashiers and manager would not let it me use the happy gift cards to buy them. I ended up using them to buy GameStop gift cards at a GameStop in hopes of buying an Xbox Series X. It's obviously pretty hard to liquidate a GameStop gift card. I'm sure others had easy experiences, but for anyone thinking to quickly convert these to Amazon gift cards it's seriously YMMV.

Depends on the location. The card specifically says that no gift card can be purchased, but some Lowe's employees don't check on them.
Please note that at my local Lowe's, gift cards can only be purchased at a manned register (i.e. no self-service kiosk).
Yes, and that's what makes these a good deal. These are run as credit gc's which Happy doesn't sell directly. I used over $500 last winter to buy Amazon GC at Lowes using the same method.

Yes they do but they're usually like a decade out.
These are actually debit cards which can only be used at the listed merchants. So they come with 3 digit security codes also. They just don't print the numbers in 4+4+4+4 format which works to fool most.
Great deal thanks so much OP Directions were unclear to me though. once I was on my gift card selection on Discover I had to do a search for happy holiday giftcards to find them. Bought a $200 happy holiday gift card for $160. Hopefully I can use at Lowe's for other gift cards like everyone else here
How much does it cost to buy the Amazon/whatever gift card at Lowe's?
Or is it free when using the Happy gift card?

Really?
Face value. $200 = $200 etc. So, buy Happy GC with Discover CB, $160 in CB for $200, go buy Amazon (or whatever) at face value and boom you have a 20% discount.
The only cards with activation fees are the prepaid CC's (Visa/MC/AE).
Amazon is only used as the poster child here because it's *as good as cash* for most people that shop there regularly.
The two Lowes nearby me don't allow buying gc with gc. After getting a manager to agree that the happy holidays card is actually a credit card, both Lowes then required a ID with same CC name for any gift card purchase using a credit card. Obviously there is no name at all on these hh cards. So it's really a major YMMV for purchase of Amazon GCs at Lowes with this from my experience.
So I also ended up going to GameStop to use the happy holidays GC with the promo last year.
They also require an ID on merchandise return and require the same ID to use the merchandise credit. I asked if my husband could redeem and they said he would need to have my ID on him. I think they've had a lot of credit card scammers. Someone approached me in store years ago, to pay for my large home improvement purchase and I would make 10% on it, but I declined-IDK what that game was, but I told a manager and I think he said it was stolen CC or GCs.
Ah, gift cards! When you want to give someone money but don't think they are responsible enough to choose where to spend it
all gcs i give out, i record the details. if you don't spend it (soon), i'll spend it. i'm tired of giving gcs that get put in a drawer and never used. this is what i've learned over decades, not years.

HD and Lowes get a lot of fraud apparently. HD requires ID with returns, and ties your store credit to that ID (for returns without receipt) because they had an issue with people stealing items then returning them and selling the store credit.
I used to get Regal GCs with my Discover Rewards. $50 GC for $45 in Rewards dollars. Looks like they don't offer just standard Regal GCs any more. I guess this is the replacement for those, but they can also be used at other places.

Best solution is don't give gift cards. Has anyone ever told you the gift card you gave them had no balance?

seems like no one has a problem accepting gcs as a gift. i've never been informed they tried to use a zero balance gc which means their excuses are likely true: "i think i lost that card from 2 years ago, sorry i didn't tell you" or "i keep forgetting to use the gc you gave me 3 years ago maybe i'll pull it out the next time i go to walmart or order something from amazon." lol
dont forget back in the day, gcs were used almost exclusively for giving to others as a gift. very popular and i didn't it often but when the no expiration thing became real, i started recording the numbers and today i take photos. you accept it but you don't want to use it (like the merchants are hoping you'll forget), not a problem.
