You add a companion to your itinerary any time you have companion pass. If you have it now, you can add companion today. If you get it early January via credit cards you have to wait until you have that status to add companion, and hope there's still a seat on the flight. You could book a refundable or points fare now to hold open a seat for your companion in that case.

If you have companion pass now and book a companion ticket early next year but your status expires 12/31, you'll see that companion reservation cancelled around January 1st.

Looks like rental car prices are still really high for Maui during those month, probably best to check on that before hopping on these deals.

Have a trip planned for Hawaii in Jan. Booked before when dates came out.. seems now they are around 2000 points cheaper. Rebooked them with the deal and changed some dates.
Fingers crossed that there are still seats on the flights when the companion pass deal comes out on Jan. 6th!

Decent price on flights ($350 r/t from DC area)....but sweet mother, everything else is a wreck....looking at Maui January, I am seeing the cheapest hotel is Courtyard at the Airport.....for $585 a night....and car rentals at $120 per night. They could give me the flight for free and I wouldn't go.

To be fair, I was comparing the options from the east cost to those of the west coast. There are easier and more plentiful options from that side... even in SWA.

Sure, each has novelty to those who haven't been there. Hawaii has some issues with needing a vaccination to GET there, but nothing to get home (similar to PR). The Caribbean has different rules per country. Florida of course has none.

We're going to Oahu in January to see Pearl while my dad can still make the trip. He'd prefer the shorter flight to Cabo. (Which I also find less exciting than the Yucatan)

If I'm reading it correctly, you must purchase your ticket between Jan 6 to Feb 28, then designate your companion free of charge. Please correct me if that is not the case.
