Can only speak for myself. I usually stick with sales, and stick with rather low data plans - because the best prices are usually with those... And I'm totally fine with preloading stuff at home, and waiting til I have wifi to download games, movies, podcasts, etc. Having a plan like this to offset data usage as a temporary SIM, or even on an old phone, while the main number and/or work number are on Google Voice makes this do-able for me personally.... But this setup isn't for everyone, and I probably wouldn't do it myself if I was required to make or receive phone calls more often.

Currently, I'm on the Visible promo for 3 months, where they'll give me a $100 gift card afterwards. I'm also looking into the Beast Mobile free 1gb/mo thing (after $20+ for sim and shipping), but if it works at all, it probably won't be around for long. Also considering TextNow(?)'s free service + $5 or so SIM.

It generally isn't feasible to hop from deal to deal though. It's around this time that they seem to happen... While Mint Mobile and some other MVNOs may have service on sale via Best Buy or their site throughout other times of the year. Again, still not regular or consistent enough to only use the deals though.

Yes, or you can purchase an annual plan from their eBay store - it's usually cheaper if you're able to prepay for a year. Look for Black Friday sales for best pricing.

I've been on RP for maybe 6 months. 3 of those months I have run out of data way before I should have. Their mechanism for calculating it is way off. I thought there must be some fluke the first two times, but this month my phone says that I've used 1.3GB and RP says I've used over 20GB. I'm switching back to Cricket as soon as I can.

I've seen people on Reddit complain amout it as well.

I have them, since 2018, and for the first 3 years until I renewed this year I have loved their service. Great price and the coverage and speeds were good in my area.

However I changed plans this year and and it snowballed into 2 months and over 10 attempts to fix with their customer service, each time they literally made it worse. No accountability or care. Still not fixed now.

Great service until you need help. Not worth it.

Just use privacy. Auto generates a credit card # and you can set limits like one time use or prefill a certain balance to the throw away credit card #. Free and easy for situations like this

The thing that is annoying about this as well is you can't buy more data if you run out of data UNLESS you have WiFi.

So if you are on a road trip and run out, you can't even load their website to buy more.
