Platinum is supposed to be a premium credit card - has one of the highest annual fees of any CC, and they add a Walmart benefit? I think Amex is confused and really diluting the brand and product

The new Soulcycle benefit that was also added is completely worthless

They diluted their AMEX Deals too. It used to be only a few but they were all very decent. Now its full of junk from tiny retailers that i've never heard of and takes forever to filter through the garbage.

I admit, i will probably use this Walmart deal but i dont thiink the typical AMEX Plat card holder would ever step foot insiide a walmart.

I hope AMEX dont continue going down the shitter.

Wow, talk about out of touch! I know a handful or Platinum card holders (myself included), and none of them would have any qualms with shopping at Walmart.

It's deals such as these that made me close my CSR in favor of Amex Plat. Thanks OP! I use Walmart for all most of my toy purchases, party supplies and wife uses it for all her baking needs. This is definitely a welcome benefit.

I have Amex Platinum for more than 5 years and I fly both Biz and First class when travel internationally and I do go in Walmart when I pass by a super store...
In my book Amex is doing everything right.
As long as I can utilize those Amex offers I don't care whether they are shitter small shop or name brand store. Frankly all the Amex offer I got this year has pretty much offset my annual fee.

Sometimes it is just ridiculous that people think that a credit card can make you look better or higher class... I know people flocking to the metal platinum card when it released and I am still using my plastic version.. frankly it just a CARD I dont usually take it out my wallet for more 30 secs why would I want to increase the weigh of my walletLMAO

Similar date as the previous year, but I'd say hit up their chat on the website or app so they give you an exact date.

Can't recall if Amex gives any grace period on full/ prorated refund upon cancelling after annual fee billing, but if they do, I would cancel T minus 2 days, where T is any grace period's end date.

That way you get to use it for a few additional days/ weeks for no cost.
Thank you very much & repped

Yeah sure AmEx is adding all kinds of weird credits to this card but at least it's tons of stuff. What has Chase added the the CSR? That card is an even bigger brick.
The reserve's only benefit is the 50% boost to UR points and the very lenient $300 travel credit making the effective annual fee $250.

But yeah Chase really cannibalized the card with the rework of their freedom/freedom unlimited.

Even the preferred's rework made the reserve obsolete. They earn the same for dining but have wildly different fees?

I also get more value out of my points by using transfer partners but yes the pay yourself back is nice

Does anyone know when Amex Platinum charges their annual fee? is it the same date as the previous year? I want to downgrade to a free card before the fee kicks in. Personally the benefits are nowhere near worth the yearly fee.

TIA
There is no free card to downgrade for platinum. You can only downgrade to gold or close it.

My only hang up with Walmart is the horrid in store return process. It always feels chaotic and understaffed.

thanks for this, OP, I've signed up.

I'm unclear on one thing, though--statement credits like this typically have an end date, like they work for six months or something. I wasn't able to find one. anyone know?

typically same date as previous year. you can miss it by a bit and they'll refund you. also, if you call and say you're going to cancel, they'll likely give you a decent retention offer--money off of the yearly fee, or credits, or more membership rewards points (can be worth more than $$$ if you travel).

$7 tip?????? Tipping culture does NOT extend to Walmart in my world lmao
You're going to have an unhappy shopper if you tip them nothing. Shopping is a lot more work than a restaurant food delivery.

I don't think you realize how many people shop at Walmart and how that distribution looks like in terms of incnome or some other wealth metric. The whole idea of a "brand" is dumb anyway, those who already shop at Walmart and have an Amex premium card can enjoy the benefit and try Walmart+ for free. Of course this is Slickdeals so someone will complain because apparently free isn't good enough.
