Chewy currently has a promotion for a free Litter Genie Plus with the purchase of select Fresh Step litter. The cheapest eligible litter is Fresh Step Clean Paws Scented [chewy.com] for $13.79.

I've used the litter Genie (normal, not plus) for a few months now. I use Pine Pellet litter and it works great for me. some people don't have a great experience using it with clumping litter, some do. I think getting for one for free with the purchase of litter is a pretty solid deal.

Regarding replacement bags, I had great luck using amazon warehouse. I got 4 pack of (sealed) refills for $8 instead of $27. I've been using the same refill for a little over 2 months now with two kittens and pine litter (I do only scoop solids though).

I thought so too, till I started using one. Game changer. I use 13 gallon garbage bags as refills. 8 gallon would be perfect, just difficult to find at a decent price point. Owned by 2 cats. 🐱🐱
Same here. I thought it was a joke when my mother in law gave us 1. Sat in the garage for almost a year until I decided to check it out. After that I am hooked and my cat is happier too with a clean box all day long. I have the regular size litter genie and the 4 gallon trash bags fit great. I use the litter genie bag as just a chute so 1 insert lasts a year plus lol
Thank you op. We rescued a cat and man his dookie ordor is so strong. Hopefully this genie helps with the odor.

Do you take your garbage out daily? Most people don't. People should be cleaning the cat box daily. Do you like to use an unflushed toilet? Well neither do cats and their sense of smell is 14x better than a human. If you treat your cat with respect and clean the box at the frequency you should this is very convenient. Using grocery bags is also inferior to using this.
If you see a cat use the litter box you should scoop it when you see the cat leave or as soon as convenient but once a day if not more.

Just as an aside, the scoop that's included is junk. This is what I use & it fits nicely in the genies scoop holder.

It's not on sale but thought I'd put it out there.

Target has a metal scooper that's cheaper, that's what I use with my litter genies and the scoop fits in the holder nicely: https://www.target.com/p/cat-litt...nk=sametab

I just use the doggie poop bags, like 8 rolls of the big ones for a few bucks. They don't tear or have holes like grocery bags and once they're tied you can't smell anything. This just seems like another thing to empty and clean and buy bags for.

Best litter I've found that eliminates the ammonia funkiness is Arm & Hammer Platinum Slide, and it doesn't stick to the bottom or sides, super easy to scoop. It's often on sale, 30% off on Amazon right now.

I use a Booda Scoop n Hide for the scooper, works very well. Had mine almost 10 years now.

I've had a few litter genies over the years of fostering. It's a good gadget to give a try. I like using them when I have a litter of kittens because the waste is small and their litterbox needs to be emptied constantly throughout the day. Also, the kittens are usually kept in a room on the other side of the house. I've never found the genies very useful for adult cats. The opening isn't large enough and gets dirty easily. The mechanisms work but not always smoothly, and with multiple large cats, it has to be emptied often which takes extra work. It just is easier, I find, to clean out the litterbox into a regular bag and walk the extra few feet to the outdoor trash.

If you live in a home where the outside trash isn't close to your litter box or you have to deal with bad weather it probably makes sense.

I'm using this with my Genie: best scoop ever IMHO due to the design.

Thank you!! I was just thinking of getting a replacement one - I love mine, I clean the boxes everyday and it holds it for me until trash day with no odor. Smart ideas from others regarding the replacement bags. Also stock up on those during sale b/c they're not going to go bad!
There are a few websites that sell knock off (of equal quality) bags for a third of the price of the name brand bags! Worth checking out as well.

You can also get great deals on the original bags stacking first order subscribe and save discounts with the $15 off coupons that Chewy has had in the past. I think I was around $4 per package for a pack of 12 the last time I ordered.

I buy a big container of Arm and Hammer cat litter.. it comes in a plastic bin.. I use the old ones like a cat genie.. once it's full, I throw the whole bin away.. by that time I already have another empty one.. works perfect with trapping the smell..

I agree, once a day is the bare minimum, and if you do it the way you suggested your cats will appreciate it.

I used to doggy poop bag my cat's poop, and toss it in the designated "cat poop trash can". But the smell was so god awful even thru the dog poop bags that I would have keep the trash can outside on my balcony. Problem is on a hot Cali day (which is pretty much every other day), I can still smell the cat urine and the smells would still make its way into my apartment.

2 years later, I regret being the cheap bastard I was and not ponying up the $20 to just buy the pail cuz it is in fact a game changer. The ease of scooping (neither me or my partner make a big stink about being the one who has to change the litter anymore), and the lack of cat urine smells around my place really make for owning a cat a much better experience.

If you have just the 1 cat, I kinda get the hesitation though I really still highly recommend picking one up. But anyone with multiple cats, I think picking up a litter genie is an absolute must-buy and a no-brainer purchase.

Feed him only grain free foods and his poop smell should improve.

never used one of these until about a month ago. and like it a lot so far.

someone mentioned about cleaning it. there is zero cleaning required all the waste goes into plastic bags that are sealed. if you need to clean it, then you are using it wrong.

turns out our HOA is pretty strict on pet waste, so this thing is a blessing for us.
