Perfect example of ignorance is bliss. Feel free to enjoy your "compact wireless speaker that sounds fantastic". Just don't come on here and proclaim they are better than floorstanding speakers in the same product line without any facts because they have "many many more features".

I'm pretty sure if one of the leading authorities on sound reproduction research (Dr. Floyd Toole) decided to go through the expense and effort of hanging 150lbs., full sized speakers on his wall they probably do actually sound better than their bookshelf counterparts. And yes, he does integrate them with subs so they are not running full range even though they are one of the true full range floorstanding speakers that don't cost more than a house. Like I said, the only benefit to bookshelf speakers is if you need to actually put them on a bookshelf or wall.

I owned the Polk RTi150s as well as the bookshelfs/dipole set as well as the center that was just leagues ahead of its time...

That said I don't think those JBLs would be "better."

I don't own the 580s...I do have the 590s...and while those produce a nice wall of sound that the Polks couldn't..they would do so at the loss of that silky smooth detail from the Polk's tweeter.

Sorry, hard to tell with printed words and not knowing the poster's sense of humor. I wasn't sure if the laughing face was laughing at people buying floorstanders or the person you quoted.

These seem to be the one case of 'meh' in the lineup as the woofer size can't keep up with the bigger compression tweeter that's shared with the 590. BUT....

It's the perfect option for a center channel to park between two 590s!
The 590s are demonstrably better, that is for sure true, but the 590s are going to dominate the vast majority of spaces for the vast majority of people. No amount of measuring is going to prepare people for the size of the 590s. They are physically imposing and, more importantly, their sound is imposing as well. They are going to overpower just about everything else in the room and you need a ton of space for them to really hit their stride. In a nice big dedicated home theater, you cannot do better than 590s for the price (bonus nachos for a 580 center like you said). In a nice sized dedicated listening area for vinyl in stereo, you cannot do better than 590s for the price. ANYWHERE else, they're too much speaker and I do not find myself saying that often because I am someone who had 530s near field on his desk.

I ended up with the 580s as Front L/R myself after a whole bunch of trial and error and I could not be happier with them. I actually wanted to go all the way down from 590s to 570s for Front L/R in my space because my Front L/R are forced into a bit more of a corner than I would prefer, but the 570s were not available at the time I was in the market so I went from 590 to 580 in my home theater and moved the 530s from my desk to my surrounds in there. It is a fairly large space, 14x20 but the seating is about 12 feet from the screen and 8 feet of space behind and the 580s are perfect. 590s were way too much. I just couldn't do it. I would probably recommend a sub in a home theater for 580s, I have two, just to take some load off them but I also use that room for music listening with the 580s in stereo and I am not joking when I say the low end shakes the entire house at reference volumes and three of the four walls in that room are solid concrete.

If I were creating a home theater from scratch right now, I would probably have three 590s across the front, move the 580s to surrounds and the 530s to rears and then in-ceiling Atmos above. Some day.

Occam's Razor dude.
If you have to nano-partically break it down just to make a half-witted point maybe stop and get some help?

Fact is the name of the game isn't aesthetics or matching jack. It's about how a speaker (wait for it) sounds, what it outputs with such metrics like: frequency response, spl and dsp (if any)
Oh you mean the "nano-partically break it down" of how "sound" is defined differently for each of us! 🤔

Hmm let me see what do I need to find out what a speaker "sounds" like…….
Wait for it …….. for me, my ears 😳

Do I need to know what the "measurements" of its "frequency response, spl and dsp" to "actually" know……. For me NO.

Would I even be able to distinguish and point out "frequency response, spl and dsp" by just listening….. I know I can't and I don't know anyone that can.

So out of curiosity what are your mixed brand front left & right speakers specifically?

I want to buy a set of 580s for front L/R channel for a 5.1 setup. What center speaker do you use?

I'm on the same boat. Currently I have a Polk lsim706c with the new 580s. Wondering if I should leave it as is or buy a 520c or 580 for center

To any experts in this matter, what is best center speaker for JBL 580? Earlier someone mentioned harmon audio's center speaker is good match.

Far from being considered an expert, but the best center speaker for any L/R pair is another speaker of the L/R pair. In this case it would be another JBL 580.

If you can't do the 580, I would recommend the 530 if not, the 520C.

Would it be feasible to wire two studio 530's to the center channel amp output as long as the amp was powerful enough?

Almost everyone I know with JBL 5 series are not happy with the performance of the 520C, they all prefer/use Infinity's RC263 center.

Thanks..Infinity's RC263 looks pretty good. Never seen 3 speakers in a center. Considering its a different brand but same parent company, is it a good match with JBL 580...matching timbre, frequency and crossover all that crap. I appreciate you taking time to reply and save us from research Smilie

I use Infinity RC263 and couldn't be happier. My second choice (which is relevant now, as RC263 has been sold out for months) would be an Emotiva center or Hsu center.

It's possible, but not recommended. Not sure what you're trying to achieve. I'm assuming you're either trying to put one above and one below your screen or putting them on their sides in an MTTM type configuration. Just use one speaker upright and angle it so the tweeter is pointing towards ear level. If you have to, lay it down on its side, but I'm not sure the dispersion pattern of the tweeter horn will work well with the speaker on its side or not.

I'm not familiar with the Studio series, but that's surprising that the Infinity center works better as a center in conjunction with the JBL Studios. I can see them working well since they are pretty much from the same manufacturer with the same design philosophies, but never would have expected them actually being better.

Then again, it's been a long time since I've been active in the audio scene. Ever since I've completed my room, I've prioritized actually enjoying it rather than keeping up with the latest and greatest in speaker offerings. Now I just research electronics when new features are added that pique my interest. Next up will be jumping into the Atmos bandwagon. It's not looking good for my bank account though.

Wider soundstage/dispersion...laying both horizontally in a mtm configuration.
