I think a lot of the complaints have to do with some buggy Android TV features. TCL is getting it ironed out though

Yes just get the R635 it's very similar performance and is 775 on Amazon and Walmart . Unless you love Android or absolutely need the slightly better local dimming get the r635

From what I've seen from FOMO and rtings it seems like the r646 is a pretty big step up in IQ.

It also is much brighter and has HDMI 2.1, better uniformity as well. RTINGS isn't the end all be all but it has a .4 higher score which is substantial.
