How would this compare to older brother printers and generic toner cartridges?

I've got it's sister model "dw" which adds wifi networking. It's a fine b&w laser printer that has double-sided printing. On my dw, it's a little wonky in that you have to wait for a print job to finish before queuing up another print job or else the 2nd one fails to print (on windows 10).

Uses the TN630/TN660 toner, for which generics are available.

The full specs, from the manufacturer. https://www.brother-usa.com/produ...ccessories

Personally, I'd wait for a model that has networking (wifi or otherwise), but this is a great price, especially during the pandemic.

Great printer. Will last for years and years. All wear items are replaced during Brother's refurb. If you are comfortable with using a cable for connection. this is great. Otherwise, a wireless dw version of this printer provides a wireless connection. 2,600-page toner cartridges are $10-$15 on Amazon, etc.

Helpful comments bc I'd never buy a wired printer... the wireless version of this printer, refurbished, is only $20 more. I'd definitely spend the extra $20 on the dw version:

EDIT - somebody just posted Staples $20 on $100 COUPON CODE "21041" in another thread (give him some rep)... so, I used that to buy the WP wireless model of this printer. I bought some clearance office supplies (250 sheets of HP paper for $2.41 on clearance, for ex, and 12 pk of pens for $1.28 are good examples), and the total came to $100.04. After coupon, my total adjusted price on the printer was only $72.00, exactly.

Isn't this the regular price for this model at Staples? I got one a couple of weeks back at the same price and have a delivery date for the beginning of November. I bit because I had a $30 off $60 coupon.

The weak point on these printers is the drum, and while aftermarket toners work great, the aftermarket drums aren't that good.

Anybody know if the refurbished printers have brand new OE Brother Drums as part of the refurbishment? If so, great deal, because the new drum alone is worth this price.

My Brother factory refurbished printer arrived with a brand new OEM drum and sealed toner cartridge. Just these 2 items are worth the price of the printer; OEM Brother supplies are so crazy expensive. I use generics from Amazon and they work great, and are very inexpensive.

I've have this same printer, and it's performed flawlessly for at least a couple years. I expect I'll be a Brother Laser owner for the rest of my life.

Agree. A lille work horse with cheap toner and I've also had good luck with less expensive 3rd part toner from Amazon.

I'd wait and get a ...DW model with wifi.

This might be the most cost effective laser printer out there. I just purchased a 4pack toner from ebay for just $25

Never had any issues with 3rd party toners so far.

I thought my HL-2170w was the only one that did this.
My old HP Laserjet 4L did not flicker the lights.

I bought a refurbished HL-2170w from Staples many years ago.
How did you check to verify that it is a brand new OEM drum?

It was apparent that the drum unit was in brand new condition, spotlessly clean with zero wear (wiper marks on the drum surface). The printer was in a factory sealed Brother box, and I know that there's no way that Brother will send out a factory refurbished printer with an aftermarket drum unit and still warranty it. The toner cartridge was a new OEM Brother that was still sealed in the silver foil bag and packed outside of the printer for installation upon setup.

I have the wireless version and it's constantly going into the deep sleep mode. 😴 The only way to wake it up when sending it a print job is by unplugging it and replacing the plug into the wall. I have it USB connected to my router, and even that doesn't help.
