Anyone have this router and can comment? Anyone ever try it with a third party firmware too?

because wifi6 is worthless for a residence
so if you already have a decent gig dual AC
there's little point in buying any new router.
this issue gets debated here on pretty much
every router sale thread, so buckle up Ha ha

got mine yesterday at Best Buy for $170, excellent router, now I get almost full download speeds in all upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, upload is still the same as my old ac68u router which I planned to use as part of mesh but probably don't need to as speed and range is good enough for my 1800sf home.

I usually find gaming routers design really cringy but this looks cool. Some are better like this and AX86U.

Can this handle more devices than a ac86u? I have between 40-50 devices and I feel like the connections are starting to get unstable.

Does a router need to look like alien mothership in order to sell high?

I just got this exact router earlier this week and it's been excellent so far. No custom firmware, default works just fine for me. Excellent companion app as well by Asus.

If it works good who cares if it looks cool vs a black box

15% coupon they give you for bringing in any old networking junk you don't want for recycling.

Ok sincere question, I'm ignorant about this so bare with me. My only issue is I don't get good signal on my ground floor. A few mesh wifj systems have had deals (dual band) but I was hesitant to pull the trigger because they're not wifi 6. But it sounds like those would work fine if all I want is 5-10 devices to work at once, and full home coverage?
