If you have the regular version, it's a separate game. You'll have to start this one all over. It's a whole separate set of trophies, too. So, at least you're earning those along the way, again, and not just playing to get back to where you were on your original game. At least that's what made me feel better about starting it over.

Game Pass regularly removes games from the service and those games cannot be played even if they are installed and even if you still have an active Game Pass subscription. I was under the impression that the person who made the first quote found a way to circumvent that.

Well... it was worth a shot I guess.

I...couldn't imagine taking that long. I grinded the really strong slimes to get to max level really quick. Forgot how I did that. That was maybe 3 years ago on the original edition?

Edit: ya know, maybe I'm thinkin of a different game. Maybe I was around 100 hours. It was a while ago.

Yeah I think I'm remembering Nier: Automata. I haven't platinumed much

I looked up the difference between the original game vs the definitive version, and there's no major in-game changes, so game time should be similar. This version I play just have added features, like Japanese voiceover, quick menu to make gameplay more convenient, DQ8 music options, Draconian settings (self imposed difficulty settings), etc.

Ahh yeah Nier Automata is a much shorter game in comparison. Cool, you got good tastes in games!

So I have not had my GamePass (Ultimate) expire, so I can't speak for that. I do have a number of games installed right now which are expired that I can still play. I would imagine that online-focused games might be an exception, but I have yet to encounter any like that. Do you have an example of a game that doesn't work anymore?

Good news, this actually is the Switch version. That's why reviews for XBone and PS4 are frequently disappointed.

The Definitive Edition was released on Switch first, and instead of recompiling XBone and PS4 versions the right way they just got lazy and ported the Switch version back. It's still the best, and possibly only, way to get all the content at once, but people who care more about graphics tend to be unhappy with the port.
