i had a walmart humidifier.
the ultrasound thingy became crusted with minerals after a couple of months of use.
and no longer could convert water to mist.
i tried to remove the minerals by scraping it with a screwdriver but damaged the ultrasound.
threw the whole thing away.

How about this costco humidifier?

Very awkward when refilling. Can't use tap water if you want to avoid build up.

Same issue. Almost similar model (same brand) from Costco. Have no way to clean it now that it has stopped working (refill light stays on). Feeing yucky to return to Costco. Not sure if I'll do it. Just bought the Winix from the earlier deal.

Sounds like hard water build up. I have a 3 year old ultrasonic Homedics humidifier, and every now and then I soak the exposed components with a 1:1 water to white vinegar solution overnight, then rinse throughly. The diluted acid eats away the hard water build up, and the machine works like new.

Build up is a normal thing for this and coffee maker. Like above op said "every now and then, need to soak with vinegar". Use drinking or filter water so build up doesnt developed quicker.

Mineral build up will be an issue on any ultrasonic humidifier.

One of the humidifiers that we bought had clear instructions to clean the vibrator with a cotton tip dipped in a solution with half vinegar & half water.

I've had this model for almost 7 years from Costco. It works well but builds up both a white mineral and a reddish film. Usually lightly clean between fills with a vinegar and water solution. Then deep clean once a month with diluted bleach. No issues with the membrane. It definitely makes a difference in humidifying a bedroom.

This will always happen if the water has minerals (which all drinking water has). The more minerals it has, the faster the buildup will be. I use filtered water to minimize this issue. If you want to get rid of it altogether, you may use distilled water, but that will cost you much more over time.

Look into evaporative humidifier if you don't want to use de mineralized water. You would need distilled water to avoid white dust with ultrasonic humidifier.

I had pair of this 3-4 years ago, maybe a previous version design. One worked great, the other somehow had many issues: leaking, weak steam. I returned one to Costco. After shopping around other brands in the past 2 years, now I think it is still better to buy from Costco. Bottom line, it works great when it works, and can be returned if not.

Had mine for three years, no issues with white dust if I use filtered water.

Wonder if putting ivermectin in the aroma therapy bin cures ailments

Any experience with how many parts this thing has to clean? I bought a different model last year (Levoit 6L). We have hard water with high mineral content. I used Brita water every night, and cleaned it every week. It worked great, but cleaning the tank, then the tube, then the base, then the other tube thing was a little time consuming. They weren't really ergonomically friendly in that way.

But if this or another unit were easier to clean, I might consider a new one for the bedroom and move the old one to a different room we use less.

Where do you see the $20 discount? Next month coupon book doesn't have this product.

we have a Vicks brand by Kaz. It comes with a charcoal filter that the water runs thru before it goes to.mister. I also clean per directions not as frequently as they state had no issues now for 5yrs for ultra mist.
