would love this if it was f1.8 or lower lol
Maybe if it was intended (exclusively) for astrophotography, but even for that 2.8 can certainly get the job done….

Apart from that (& with the caveat that 1.8 would be a nice luxury for Astro, though a far cry from a necessity) 2.8 on a 24 is plenty fast for that focal length & its most common uses, those being Landscape, Architecture, Cityscape, real estate, events etc. A 1.8 would definitely fit the niche need of venue or event photography in extremely dim lit settings, but the 50-75% added size, weight & cost is hard to justify for all but the most demanding aforementioned niche photogs. ..

G-Master or bust! (Except the 85mm)
I have both, and this little lens is very fun, aesthetics are better than the gmaster, nearly sigma i series in look....... those i series take the cake in beauty, however G lenses are more functional with the declickable aperture and focus hold button.

sony is an AF beast and 49mm filter threads.

aperture wheel, focus hold, mf switch, it's a mini g-master style of a lens.

People in here are completely missing that the point of this lens is it's size - yes, there are lenses from third parties and Sony with faster aperture… but they are bigger. Defeats the whole point of Sony adding these.

There are very few lenses that match this quality and size - though there are cheaper compact lenses, if you're ok with a quality compromise.

Ah, so you're one of those suckers who makes the Sony Corporation laugh their way to the bank, buying their price-gouging lenses for your kids' soccer matches or bridezilla shoots, believing it makes some kind of visible difference. It's like those people you see sometimes wearing T-shirts with gigantic designer logos: it's still just a T-shirt.

Also focus noise in video.
My Samyang 35mm 2.8 is smaller than than this lens but is unusable for video. Anyone who wants to use the 24 for a dual purpose photo/video lens needs to think about AF speed and noise.

EDIT:
Video reviews from Manny Ortiz and some feedback say that the AF is ok for video on the 24mm Samyang for $200 https://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-An...B07FH133Q1

People in this thread keep comparing this lens to other size/speed 24mm lenses. The most direct comparisons are the Samyang above and this larger Tamron https://www.amazon.com/Tamron-24m...B07ZHRFLQP

The tamron is 2.5 inches (64mm) long. 215g and uses a 67mm filter.

The Sony and Samyang use 49mm filters.
The Samyang/Rokinon is 1.46 inches (37mm) long and weighs 93 grams (the mount is plastic).

The Sony is 1.8 inches (45mm) long and weighs 162 grams.

That's okay though. Sony wasn't targeting this demographic. This lens series is for people that want quality, smaller sizes, less $$$ and don't need fast apertures. Great for people who stop down a lot, hikers that want a quality landscape kit that won't break the bank, etc. If people can't comprehend that, then this lens wasn't designed for them.
