Electric smokers are easy, quick, and good enough. It is for convenience. I use my electric smoker much more and more often than I ever do my other options. I can chuck in a pack of thighs and breasts turn a knob, insert a probe and come back 90 minutes later to great smoked chicken. I can put whole chicken or a turkey in and do the same in 4-9 hours, same or less overall effort as tossing in the oven but 1000x better result. Same with any meat. Other then putting in some more wood chips occasionally, that's it. Electric is not as smokey crusty and flavorful for some things but the simplicity gets you using it more and it's still great. In my opinion small poultry has less of a difference, large pork has a bigger difference and I'll still use my non electric offset at times for that.. People claiming electric is for newbies or down grading claiming your not experienced enough for a "real" smoker are full of it.. The major EXPERIENCE of smoking is knowing how to pick the meat, the prep, the spices, the rituals, the sauce, the temperature and timing. That applies across the board regardless of what you are using to actually cook/smoke or even if not smoking and using an oven..... A true wood/charcoal/pellet is icing on the cake if you have the time and/or money. Get an electric smoker and you will enjoy the outcome. Even cheap skinless boneless chicken, cheap store bought kalbasi and sausage, baked beans, and all of the traditions like ribs, brisket, shoulders etc... Toss in some pork ribs (I prefer st louis), follow some basic prep for smoking ribs online, it's 4-6 hours, the last 2 hours throw in some packaged kielbasa, brats, or similar and a pan of baked beans if you have room and have cornbread and South Carolina style sauce standing by and enjoy!!!!
I can't speak for this specific electric smoker.

Maybe not this one, but my Materbuilt, I do use a pellet tray instead of the chip tray,, gets me " that's the best barbecue I've ever had, and doesn't even need any sauce" all the time!

Definitely need a pellet tray or tube with these pellet grill/smokers. We have the Pit Boss Pro from lowes. I went from my charcoal smoker/grill to a pellet and I was not satified at all with the smoke flavor until we added the A-Maze-N smoke tube and I use pit boss charcoal pellets in the tube. Now, as you said its good smoke flavor. I gave my charcoal setup away.
I have been toying with the idea of tossing in the smoke tube during a cook instead of just reserving it for cold smoking. It sounds like you're saying that you put charcoal in your tube in addition to pellets - is that correct? Do you have any issues with it burning more quickly and / or going out?

I have a master built Black Friday bass pro special been going strong for almost a decade now
Buy apple and hickory chips some but mainly I use dead limbs of my pecan trees
Hard to beat the convenience and ease of operation
Just talks a while
I use the 3 2 1 method for ribs and pork butts take 8-10 hours
I only have the 30" and might upgrade to a 40" if it comes across slick deals
This one seems a little small and the reviews are not great
Think I'd wait for a bbd - bigger better deal for those of you that have not seen hardbodies

Buy pit boss at your own risk. There's a reason they're so cheap.

My pitboss auger (different model) died after one season. This might be okay for the price, but I decided that budget was not the solution for reliable good bbq. I went with a rectec (or recteq) 590. Up to you, but I would not risk another pitboss.
You know Pitboss has a 5 year warranty?

Electric not as flavorful as pellet IMO.
Then your not doing it right. My Bradley smoker will keep up or beat most any pellet smoker

Wow just seen this one goes to 400 degrees! Wish my Materbuilt got that high.
That's on a good day. I'd say 350 max max.

Source: I work for Pit Boss and this is a the call we get the most on these

I've been thru 2 base model Masterbuilt electric smokers and 1 Smoke Hollow electric smoker in the past 3 years. All failed due to the heating element going out in about 6 months of weekly use. None got over 250-300, which is ok as long as they stay consistent at 225-250. Takes me 12-15 hours to smoke a pork butt at that temp. Hopefully this Pit Boss keeps living at least a year & I'll be happy. I did keep the prior units out of the weather, covered when not in use & with a drip tray on bottom rack. I like the space saving of vertical smokers as the reason I keep going back.

Yea… it's not helpful when all of the parts are back ordered. They wouldn't do anything.

Hey there. Pit boss actually sells pellets made of charcoal. Others brands may sell them as well I am just not sure what ones.I find the charcoal pellets at walmart normally https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/467052299 . It says out of stock but you may be able to find them locally.
Yes, the tube works great to cold smoke as well. Makes excellent smoked cheese

FWIW, this really is more like an electric oven than a smoker. I had this model for a few months and in OH weather it sucked. I couldn't sell it fast enough. Very little smoke since you're relying on the electric heating element to basically catch wood chips on fire, once they are out, smoke is done. Usually 30-60mins max, then it's just an oven that you have to refill the water pan on every 2 hours.

It also never achieved anywhere near the temperature it was set at. Nothing was ever fully cooked to temperature.

My buddy had it in FL and had no issues however.

I smoke several times a month and have since upgrading to a pellet grill. I wouldn't consider this smoker if you have any weather at all. If you're in FL, GA, etc it's okay. But filling the water pan every 2 hours was the final deal breaker and I sold it.

I have 2 pitboss pellet grills. I never achieved the level of smoky flavor of my old masterbuilt electric. The masterbuilt was unreliable though and would cut out in the middle of a smoke. can't speak for this model though.
I had a master built that wouldn't reach 135 after a season of once a week use. Never again!

these electric smokers still use pellets or chips for flavor just electric for steady heat, I have a stick burner and an electric one, both give amazing flavor, you just need to know what to do with them.

Usually using the a-maze-n pellet tray will provide much better smoke flavor than an actual pellet smoker/grill. So, no issues at all combining electric with the tray for great flavor. And incredibly cheaper operating costs.
Fully agree, this tray is amazingly good : https://www.amazon.com/MAZE-N-Pel...B007ROPJ1M

This smoker is way too small, even in 30 inch Masterbuilt you cant put whole rack of ribs in one piece.
