When the deal was posted then the price of the 13 series was $100 less than the current price and so was the trade in values of those phones. When they bumped the price up to $100 then the trade in value also increased by $100.

Ex: Iphone 13 128 gb price $699.99 - trade in value of 12 mini was $530

Now iphone 13 price is $799.99 - trade in value of 12 mini $630
First off, thanks for the prompt response, I will be repping you!

And in relation to your response, so basically net net there is no change (I didn't miss out on any $) by waiting to do the deal now, vs back when the BB deal first came out?

Yes you did not miss anything.

The only change happened to the trade in values are iphone 11 and below models had slight change in trade in values. They reduced between $10-$30 as far as i have observed. Rest trade in values for 12 series was untouched.

Oh dang, one more thing I forgot to ask. I want to get the 13 as a Christmas gift for my spouse and obviously for gift purposes I want it completely sealed, unopened, will Best Buy mandate that it is opened in the store when I buy it or can they activate it just by scanning the barcodes on it etc. and not open the phone at all (like for example T-Mo does when T-Mobile sends phones to customers that buy them online via T-Mobile's site)?

You can return the phone and occur 2 losses here
1. You will be charged $45 restocking fees
2. The refund you will get have $200 deducted which is the trade in bonus given on the purchase.
Bummer. Thanks

So this only works for models/colors that are actually in stock right now at your local Best Buy though, yeah?

Frustrated to see I can't have them ship to store the Mini in a color I want

When you picked up your pro max from BB did they require you to open the phone to activate or were you able to take your new Pro Max fully sealed unopened?

YMMV. I've done this deal twice, once ordering online for store pickup and the second time ordering in-store.

The first time (ordered online), the rep was really hands on (for the worst) and insisted on doing everything himself. He even said I need to set both old + new phone down on his desk for "security reasons" and he questioned me when I said I have an existing SIM or that I wanted to sign onto my 2FA apps to make sure I don't lose anything. Very very annoying.

The second rep at another location was admittedly less knowledgeable/more carefree, and let me walk out with the phone still sealed. I told that rep I had a SIM because if you purchase in-store, they try to charge you $10 more for a new SIM. She waived the charge since I had my own and let me walk out.

On a side note, I've sent unlock requests twice and I'm not sure how everyone is unlocking so quickly. Both times I asked ~24 hours after I activated the phone and every single rep said they couldn't see the IMEI on my account and to try later. Around the 48-72 hr mark, I've called and they were able to unlock it immediately after they see the phone on my account (just need to restart the phone to get the unlock to show up immediately). Use "international travel" as the reason, because they're still hesistant even though the phone is fully paid off. Then again, they never asked me for a receipt. Both times I called 611 and got a helpful (US-based) rep. I did try Twitter & direct messaging in the Tmobile app, but they kept telling me "we can't see any usage on your line, try later"

Some stores do, some don't. Depends on the associate, some employees are nosy and like to open other people's phones.

They will not open unless u ask to.. if they ask you want to put in the sim now or trabsfer data just say i have backup in my laptop i will do it at home. Thats it, you will walk out with a sealed box.

Did you guys notice that even if you have a higher gigabyte storage model you don't get any more value? Not sure if that has always been the case or if it's glitching for me right now. For example an iPhone 12 mini 64gb trade in is 630, but so is the 256gb one and 128gb one, all 3 are $630, I would have figured the higher capacity ones would get more money in trade...?

This is likely a stupid question, but I don't really have any experience with postpaid plans and was hoping to get some insight from some of you who are well versed in how this all works. Would I be able to buy this through BB, request that Tmobile unlock it, then have my wife take it to Costco and do the BYOD for $300 Costco GC?

Yep, that's how it's (always?) been. No matter where I've done a trade in, they would give the same trade in value. Partly the reason I always get the lowest storage size model lol

Storage is much cheaper than the other components.
