Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

It's been a few years since I've had a Companion Pass. In the past I got two of their credit cards and that helped me hit the Companion Pass mileage easily. Is that still possible? Get two of these cards or one of these and one of the business cards?
Ok. So to get the companion pass for 2022, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card. That seems a bit steep. Is my math correct?
All these points need to be posted in 2022 to count towards the 2022 companion pass so all the spending would have to occur after my last statement closes in December. To get the 100,000 bonus points in the credit card offer, I would need to spend $14,000 on the credit card ($2,000+$12,000) and then another $11,000 to get the remaining points to make it to 125,000 points (assuming the $14,000 spent to earn the 100,000 bonus also netted 14,000 points).
So if my math is correct, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card to earn the companion pass. I think that sounds a bit rough IMO. Who can spend that much in a few months?

You'll get the companion pass for 2022 and 2023 if you time it correctly. and you have the entire next year to spend $25k; there are easy ways to get these points without spending as well; it might not be appropriate to say it here

I wish! They stopped that! Only 1 bonus on any card in 24 month period.

Interested to know as well! Please PM me!
But also curious, is it $2000 in the first 3 months and then an additional $12000 spent the remainder of the year (so total $14000)? Or is the $12000 including the first $2000 spent in the first 3 months (so total is $12000)?
I know there are ways to multiply points through SW travel and if you use the card to spend on Ubers and internet bills etc.
Quick clarifying question, it says points will be added 8 weeks after qualifying, does that mean within 8 weeks of 12 months or within 8 weeks of hitting the 12K spend in that time frame? Obviously want to get it knocked out as early as possible in 2022 to get CP for as long as possible, dont want to have to wait til end of next year to get it.
E: per post above me seems you get it as soon as you hit spend. Thanks!

"The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Cardmembers of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Card and Employee Credit Card products."
This is different than in the past. It used to be available if you didn't have the particular card. Now any SW card seems to make you ineligible, unless the other card is a business card.
Question: if your existing business card is in your name (sole proprietor), are you still eligible for the personal card deal? I assume so given the excerpt from the terms above but just curious if anyone knows those details
Yes, you are eligible for the personal card even with a sole proprietor biz card.
