Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

Ok. So to get the companion pass for 2022, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card. That seems a bit steep. Is my math correct?
All these points need to be posted in 2022 to count towards the 2022 companion pass so all the spending would have to occur after my last statement closes in December. To get the 100,000 bonus points in the credit card offer, I would need to spend $14,000 on the credit card ($2,000+$12,000) and then another $11,000 to get the remaining points to make it to 125,000 points (assuming the $14,000 spent to earn the 100,000 bonus also netted 14,000 points).
So if my math is correct, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card to earn the companion pass. I think that sounds a bit rough IMO. Who can spend that much in a few months?

I'm gonna use this card to book my annual 7 day vacay in destin for the summer .. but then again that doesn't even cover half but I do have a head start ! Lol

https://creditcards.chase.com/sou...redit-card - check to see where the bonus points could benefit you, so it is not exactly $25,000 spend to earn the 25K points needed. The bonuses are not enticing as some premium cards, but definitely need to plan to maximize your bonuses.

I wish! They stopped that! Only 1 bonus on any card in 24 month period.
What if I sign up for one of these and my partner signs up for another, and we both put the same rapid rewards account # in the applications? Can we then each hit 50K bonus at $2k spent each, rather than one person at $12k spend?

Also you and the person referred get 20,000 points. Look for a referral when applying

Where does it say that if someone refers to me, I also get 20K points. It clearly says the one who refers will gets 20K points.

Do the Southwest points have any expiry date or they never expire?

I'm assuming via manufactured spending or do you have another way? Been through the MSing many times with gift cards, money orders, etc.

Companion pass requires 120k miles.

Any thoughts on how to get the final 20k miles to earn the companion pass for 2022 and 2023?

Thanks!
After the 12k miles from spending, refer 1 person and you will get 10k qualifying miles.

The 1800 points you collect this year will not count towards companion pass. You are better off getting teh card in Dec - so your 1st statement/points post in jan 2022.

shaggyajQuick clarifying question, it says points will be added 8 weeks after qualifying, does that mean within 8 weeks of 12 months or within 8 weeks of hitting the 12K spend in that time frame? Obviously want to get it knocked out as early as possible in 2022 to get CP for as long as possible, dont want to have to wait til end of next year to get it.

E: per post above me seems yo

This is a pretty under rated comment. I did this too to get meet my sign on bonus goals. I value southwest miles at 1.6%.
