Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

Priority annual fee would be $149 x 2 = $298 to get the annual credit and bonus miles. Calculation based on one year $149 is not accurate.
Technically yes, but if you cancel the card after your 7,500 annual points hit (before the 30 day mark of renewal), you will get the annual fee credit refunded. But also, he's fully correct though because you are technically only paying $74 for a year with the $75 credit. It would be $10 extra for 2 years if you kept the card for the 7,500 points.

Is this related to the ultimate reward points of chase? Or is this a totally different point system by southwest?

I am NOT WRONG, you are MISSING THE POINT of why it is stupid to spend ANYTHING in 2021 IF YOU DON'T NEED IT.

Say you spend $1,800 in 2021 so not to hit the threshold of $2,000 --- that means you have to spend ANOTHER $1,800 in 2022 as you just lost 1800 points you would have EARNED for 2022. It is NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. This has nothing to do with the $2,000 spend and not hitting it....it's called wasting a spend you have no use for...

Also, that 50,000 points doesn't get you the companion pass...it is 125,000 points, so you'd start the year with 50,200 points....instead of 52,000 points, then 112,000 points once you hit the 2nd bonus.
It depends on how you intend to get the rest of the 13000 or so points. If you are planning to get these points by referral or getting a sw business card method, it is fine to spend 1800 or so before the December statement date even on both cards if you intend to get the business card (2800 or 4800 on business card depending upon which card you get)

I currently have a SW priority card. Upgraded to priority from a plus card December of last year. Originally opened SW card in 2018.

Can I cancel and apply for this promo? Assuming I'm with the 5/24 rule for Chase

Yes, as long as the bonus hit more than 2 years ago

Just applied for this and didn't get an instant approval or denial. I thought it strange, but after looking into it, I have exactly 5 cards opened within the last 24 months Frown So I'm expecting a denial letter soon. Probably for the best though. I wasn't aware of how difficult it could be to get to 125k for the companion passes without getting 2 Southwest cards, as someone who doesn't spend that much. Also, now I've created a spreadsheet of my credit card history. Smilie

You forgot to add in the 12k points you earn on your way to your initial 100k bonus ! Technically 10,200 points from your specific example as those will come in 2022 . You still get the points for money spent before/ during bonus .

So 10,200 to meet promotion (in 2022)
100,000 promotion
10,000 spent through 2022
Only need 4,800 points more

The last chase southwest I cancel is May 2018, am I eligible for this deal to apply. Do you need 4 years since the last bonus you received?

Is there any limit or restrictions to just buying Visa prepaid gift cards to hit the spend amount in January and then just use those gift cards for my everyday spending the rest of the year? Seems like the best way to maximize the companion pass benefit.

This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

When is says "a new Cardmember Bonus within the last 24 months" is that referring to any Chase credit card, or just an SW card?
Thanks
