Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

Sorry you're clearly on to something, but admittedly don't understand. Can you clarify how to do this? Do you mean just paying my tax bill with a credit card or something else?
Paying your estimated taxes using credit card.
For now to meet your credit card thresholds for bonuses, before January 15th you can pay(charge on cc) 1040ES towards your 2021 taxes and you will get that refunded to you when you file your 2021 taxes.
For long term you can do as per earlier post. Hope it clarifies more an helps.

My stmt cycle just closed yesterday with the 100K bonus points issued. However they are not showing up in my Rapid Rewards account. I thought the transfer was instant. Anyone else experience this?
Missed the chase Sapphire preferred 100k promotion. Is this one comparable?
This will be better if you end up getting the companion pass.
Without companion pass, this is not better having to spend more to get 100k. With Chase 100k, you can transfer to SW or Hyatt or whatever you like.
Adding to that you could try buying something on a different visa and have the merchant return on the sw card before December statement to bring the balance on the card below the threshold of 2000. Haven't tried but might work !

Just return something that puts you below the required amount for the points. If the statement closes, it's this yr, not next
Nope, that is not how Chase bonuses work.

Any advice on how to do this? I don't want to return any of the big purchases I made with it (Two consoles and two guns). Thanks!
Seems like your credit line is stretched. Your business card may be on hold/review because of that. You should call business card reconsideration and ask for update and if issue due to credit limit offer to transfer some credit from another chase card to this. After business card issue resolved, can call for personal card and offer to move some of the credit from other card to this.
I earlier had a bonus from SW personal card within the last 2 years, so I got a reject for the SW Personal card with a reason "You earned a new cardmember bonus on the same product in the last 24 months". When I called the rep to understand if this 24 months rule is applicable only for the personal / business or doesn't matter. She indicated that irrespective of if it is either business or personal, a card holder can get only 1 bonus in the last 24 months under the SW rapid rewards. If we have both the Business & Personal SW cards, we will get the bonus rewards only on the first card that reaches the spending qualification. It would be great, if someone could confirm this qualification. Planning to get both the personal & business early next year to get the companion pass.

Thanks, that does make sense. Appreciate it!
Yes. I had 7 chase cards and made this the 8th
Yes, if you fly southwest a lot, this is better than CSP

Besides needing to spend 3 times as much to get the rewards.
True, but if you're going to spend anyways, you get at least $1400 worth of flights and double that number if you get the companion pass
I agree the cp is the real treat if you travel a lot
