Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

I applied for the business card a couple days ago and it said Chase needs more time to review my application. Is there a number I can call to expedite the decision?
People have said it's best not to call while they review but I'm interested what happened to you.
You'll get the companion pass for 2022 and 2023 if you time it correctly. and you have the entire next year to spend $25k; there are easy ways to get these points without spending as well; it might not be appropriate to say it here
Hello ... can you please PM me the way to do this? TIA
do they still have amazon gift cards? Anyone who got the card can you please check how many points for amazon gc ? I have my old account but everytime i try to check for rewards it says website under construction(maybe because i cancelled by credit card). I used to open every 2 years and redeem for amazon gc's but ratio kept getting worse and don't know if they still have. I don't travel so only used for amazon. Thanks
This is a pretty under rated comment. I did this too to get meet my sign on bonus goals. I value southwest miles at 1.6%.
Here's a quirk.
Use your card to OVERPAY your Federal Income Tax. The overpayment can be used to purchase up to $5,000 of U.S. Savings I-Bonds. If you're maxed out at $10,000 in bond purchases for a calendar year, you can pick up an additional $5,000 this way. All you have to do is overpay your Federal taxes and check the box on your tax return to have as much as $5,000 of your overpayment used to purchase I-bonds rather than be refunded to you.
For I-Bonds purchased November 2021 through April 2022 the composite rate is 7.12%.
NOTE: Bond rates are reset every six months so they can go up or down. Click and page down for rates.

You get 1 mile per dollar spent on GC. The bigger question is why would you get this Southwest card if you don't travel?

Thanks. So 100k points you can redeem for 1000 amazon gc now? I think they had worst rate before. Same as other travel cards some people get for travel some to get the GC or cash.

Nope. What that person is saying is that you earn points for buying gift cards just like any other purchase. Their point that if you aren't traveling on Southwest, this isn't a very relevant deal for you stands.
I don't see Amazon gift cards available; some others like Kohls/Barnes & Noble are on there for at a cost of 15k points per $100. Better non-travel value than pretty much any other airline/hotel card, but worse than any cash back or 'points' card.
We use Southwest alot and want to have the companion pass as long as possible. I can pay all of my property taxes and that alone will get to me 15K spend. I can also pay my parents property taxes to get above the 25K total spend needed to get the companion pass. I just applied and was approved for the card a few moments ago today (11/24). The card already appears in my chase online account and shows that it has a payment due date of 1/17/2022. Once I get the card in hand can I simply charge it up right away to get the 125K points that are necessary for the companion pass or do I need to wait until January to make any purchases? I just want to make sure because I want to maximize the companion pass and ideally have the pass for nearly all of 2022 and 2023. Thanks!
