Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

bit confused here. approved personal card today. Realized statement date or payment due date is a big deal. Should i request them to skip December statement altogether? OR should i just ask them to change payment due date to X of month? OR change statement generation date to Y of each month? I am also considering another card for my spouse and use mine as referee with bonus to appear in 2022 statement. Too many variables - appreciate if an expert can help please.

What's the payment date that you see currently?

FYI for everyone worried about statement date. You have 3 MONTHS to spend your first $2000. So for everyone who applied in November, to be safe, just wait until January to use your card, then you'll be fine. Or don't spend more than $2K before end of the year.

If your spouse is going to be your companion, it's not a good idea for them to qualify for their companion pass at the same time. That would be a waste. Stagger it.

I have some friends who want to try and get CP with this/these cards, but the extra 13k spend (after earning 100k bonus points + 12k spend) feels challenging. A couple questions:

-Is it possible given the remaining timeline to use a referral for getting an extra 20k? Is that referral link available very soon after application acceptance? What is the timeline/requirements for that referral bonus to hit? Referree only needs to be approved, not meet a minimum spend?

-Is it fairly easy to get approved for a business card or do you need a lot of documentation for said "business"? Can you get approved for business after approved for personal?

I'll call tomorrow and see if they can push my statement end to beginning January at this point since I plan on spending a ton more than $2000 this month...
They likely won't be able to do anything if you phrase it as 'statement date'. But you can change your payment due date - and Chase typically won't make a statement period shorter when changing a due date. YMMV if Chase will change the due date for the 1st statement.

In that case, your 1st statement is very highly likely to generate on December 28th. Sorry dude/dudette. You could try asking Chase to change the due date on the card - it is YMMV for brand new cards, but if successful would push your 1st statement into January.

1. Yes. The referral bonus should hit when your referring card's statement generates after a successful referral.

2. It isn't particularly difficult - as long as you apply as a sole proprietor and don't get cute with your business name (use your first and last name ONLY), usually there isn't a paperwork requirement.

Will the 100k points go towards companion pass though ?!
yes. You would need to spend an additional $9k, I think, to earn the additional 20k in points to reach the 120k companion pass threshold. I did it by paying rent; the 3% processing fee was well worth it after several flights.

When you open the business card and a personal card together (space them out a day or so apart), do the points for both cards count toward Companion Pass?

If that is the case you don't have to spend $25K to get to companion pass, correct? Shouldn't it just be the 12K for personal card and 5K for business card (for a total of $17K)?

This is correct, except you would only need to spend $5,000 on the business card which would give you 80,000 points, and then an additional $2,000 on a personal card which will give you 50,000 points for a total of 130,000 points. You could then spend an additional $10,000 anytime during that first year for an additional 50,000 points but those are not needed to reach the 125, 000 threshold for the companion pass.
