Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

When I go to my SWA RR account and click on "My Account", there is a link to "refer a friemd" that leads you to the 20,000 point bonus offer. The small print says "refer by 1/4/2022".
Not seeing that. Can you please tell us where you're seeing it? Is it in the SWA mobile app, or via a web browser on a phone or desktop device? (And if yes, which browser?) THANKS!!!
Is there any particular strategy of applying for business card, then personal card, or does the order not manner.
When i did this 4 years ago, i believe i did the business card because it might not apply to 5/24 but given i haven't opened up any new cards in the last 3 years, this shouldn't be an issue for me right?

I use Chrome on my PC to access my SW RR account. On the "My Account" page there is a blue box in the upper right part of the page with "New Offer" shown in red and a "Learn More" link to the referral offer.
I have a $7,000 property tax due 5 Jan, but a 2.5% fee for credit card charges. Is the 2.5% additional fee worth it to earn the points on this card?
Yes, as long as you value Southwest points.

If I cancel my current Rapid rewards card tomorrow will I be able to apply on Tuesday for a new card?
No. You will need to wait a few days (kind of like with the Sapphires), and at that point will be safe to apply for a different variety of Southwest card than you had.

If the billing due date is Jan 12, 2022, is it safe to hit the msr now?
No, that means your statement date will be December 15th. Wait until after that to hit the msr.
Alrighty now ... just applied, and received instant approval. Will wait to see what my statement closing date will be, which will determine when I will start spending.
In addition to buying Costco gift cards (for future use), also monitor when Staples has Visa gift cards on sale with no fee. You can buy up to 5 x $200 cards a day, or $1000/day. Go all seven days of the week and spend $7K.
[added] And dang, it instantly showed up on my Chase account! Due date of 2 Feb shown.

Points to a 1st statement date of January 5th. Congrats, and good luck!
Applied on Friday, approved, see the CC on my Chase account. No statement or due date yet. Worst case if I get a late DEC due date, is it easy to move statement date to Jan?
Thanks. Called the 8772600084 number and hit the "lending Services" Dept. After a brief wait, I connected to live person who told me that my application is being decisioned. She had no other insights. Then told me that the application is with "Lending Acquisition" Dept. and gave me their number which is 888-609-7805, and transferred me. Been on hold for 15 mins with no one answering Prob just gonna give up in another 2-3 mins

Yes it dropped to 40k bonus. The referral page link for personal and business cards for the past 45 days or so has always said OFFER EXPIRES 12/1/2021 so that offer just expired as one would expect it to.
The link from the Slickdeals link says it expires 12/7/2021 at 6pm ET so I think there is 4 days left on this offer through this link.

I suggest not calling the lending department, which I think deals with loans etc and may not have completeinfo regarding creditcards, but calling credit card reconsideration line at 8004539719. Because lot of do have both cards. Good luck and please update comments if favorable.

Personal or business? Call reconsideration line and see if it's an issue with credit limit. You can ask them to shuffle some from other cards.

Most likely approved. Call reconsideration line, they might just want to verify address etc.
OR
Wait a few days, the later they approve more probability that your first statement goes into January. Just a thought.
Finally got to Lending services after 33 mins of patient wait. They needed to move credit lines to get it approved. Done and Dusted
Can see referral link generated with 100K bonus but when you click on it, "message comes that this offer is no longer available" and drops to 40K. This despite having offer expiry date of 6/22/2022. Almost like a bait and switch from Chase
My closing date 4th of month. My earning so far posted today already in my Rapid Reward account ( I didn't hit bonus threshold) . So, I suggest to calling again to see if they can move your date to 1st.
My statement date says Jan 1 and payment due date is jan 7th…does that mean statement closing date is Jan 1?

I actually have a large (10+K) purchase I need to make today.
If the closing date is in Jan, should I make the large purchase today? I want to maximize how long I get the companion pass for.
